The Coil lead (Distributor End) keeps coming off.
Happened twice now and today was whilst driving so had to pull over with no power.
Seems to happen when the engine is really hot.

Would seem to suggest that your ignition coil may be getting too hot, not functioning correctly......try and replace it. Why does the engine get really hot? Is the fan not cutting in?
|
I dont'know the Daewoo distributor but assuming it has the usual screw cap holding the lead in, why can't you put a bit of tape round the lead on the inside end, to thicken it up, so that the screw-in cap binds on it and grips the taped lead so that it does not come out? Is it not that simple? Or get a lead that has a sort of rubber grommet doing the same thing.
|
Greased up the Leads which hopefully will solve it (Has done with the HT Leads)
It's a bit of a pain really - Don't wana get Cable Tie's all round the Engine !
|
The Engine Temp has never risen above just under half in the Daewoo - The coolant never seems to get hot enough for the fans to kick in - Strange really.
But the little engine gets hot and thus the HT and Coil leads Rubber expands and come loose.

you should not need to grease the connections. What type of connection do you have?

Is it the kind that pushes in?If so put a screwdriver blade in the gap of the metal connector on the lead and lever it out a bit, then it will grip tighter.
|
Greased up the Leads
So now the ignition lead from the coil will slip out easier! !
You are a dangerous fellow to be servicing motor vehicles and should not be attempting more than checking the oil and water levels etc., and you should get someone else to do your servicing.
Just imagine yourself driving in the outside lane of a busy motorway, the lead slips out, and the engine dies! Chaos at the very least.

It's actually Electrolube Just on the contacts - Maybe grease was a bit too generic ??

Sorry IanW1997.But you have not been very clear apart from lead comes off distributor.Questions were asked but not replied to.It would help if more info given..It is unusual for any lead to break free unless wrong leads were fitted in the first place/incorrectly fitted. ie lead is stretched to point of lead not accepting vibration from engine pulling it away.As you havent given more details it is impossible to say.
