FUEL CAT - anyone use it? - Chad.R
I came across this product called "FUEL CAT" and was wondering if any BRs use it?

www.fuelcat.co.uk/index.html

Does it really work - what is a "....heterogeneous or contact catylyst" anyway?

Or is it just snake oil...?

Very dubious, like almost all such gizmos.

Take a look at:

If it's what I think it is it's made from a "tin alloy". Since when has tin ever helped protect exhaust valves?

Also, the term "catalyst" implies that the petrol will do whatever they claim their gizmo will do anyway given time. I'm sorry, but I don't know any properties of petrol which will make it better after storage.

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. Please hear my confession.

Years ago I bought a petrol LR 90, non leaded head, at a Farm sale. The engine was a bit 'clattery' and being seduced by the sultry promises of The Cat and the higher cost of 4 star at 14 mpg, fell to its charms and bought one. This I hung in the petrol tank (mesh net containing alloy pellets). Within a couple of days the engine changed tune to that akin of a sewing machine.
Whilst I did not notice any increase in power or mpg I did for a number of years only fill with unleaded petrol with no apparent difference or problem.

..... and I sinned again Father, for I think I am a believer despite what has been scribed and I bought another one and lodged it in the tank of our 1989 XR3i which still goes like a bomb even on unleaded (faster still on Optimax) and purrs away.

OK so its Hail Mary Mother of God blessed art.............

I bought one about 35 year ago and put it into an old Triumph Dolomite 1500HL tank...brilliant...quieter,smoother and more mpg..done the same to two 2.0 Ltr Cortina's..brilliant again...WHY..I don't know WHY !..but nothing else was altered at the time and the cars ran much better...Anyway i have just put one in the tank of my old 1999 Honda XL600v motorbike that i have owned for 5 years..Always run very nicely anyway and more than happy with it...but for some reason fuel cats came up on my ebay ? SO I DID IT AGAIN..AND .. Tickover now improved, IS smoother to ride PLUS I and i'm a complete weirdo that checks mpg on all of my four vehicles every time i fill up and am absolutely positive now that this bike is doing about 5 mpg more for the last 3 fill ups doing exactly the same journeys, since dropping in the tank...SO..for £23 quid for the smaller bike version i am dead chuffed with the differences...one night in the tank and the next morning i was gobsmacked at how the tickover was totally better when stone cold and didn't have to fiddle with the choke lever anymore...BRILLIANT...WHY ? So i phoned the guy that sells them, who also makes them, and with honesty he tells me not to fit then in my newer cars...BRILLIANT AGAIN...and helpful...SO I AM A SINNER TOO !

FUEL CAT - anyone use it? - focussed

I wouldn't get too excited about this FuelCat. Companies House info suggests that there were three ltd companies with that name or similar and they have all been dissolved. There is also a link to a company selling the "supercharged" plug leads called Formula Power. It all sounds bit dubious.

This is a 13-year-old thread.

A: I've tried it and it works.

B: I don't understand how it can, so it doesn't.

A: I've used it in two cars, and it definitely works.

B: It can't possibly work, so you are a liar or a charlatan .....
