I'm torn between whether to accept an offer from a buyer or not for my wife's car - details are:

Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec
Black metallic
Traction, e/windows, sunroof, 17inch factory alloys, 6 disk in dash CD changer

It's done 60k miles but with full Ford history - just serviced in Jan this year. 8m MOT, 4m Tax.

In great condition APART FROM bonnet is heavily stonechipped

Parkers values a 30k miles example at £6k. Buyer has offered me £5100.

What do you think? Very hard as there are lots of examples on autotrader and higher and lower prices.... But then again my bonnet really looks bad... and 60k miles is high....

Thoughts?

8m MOT? Does that make the car 2Yrs 4 months old?

A bird in the hand.........

I'd take it. If you hold out, what more might you get if you're lucky ? £300 ? £400 ? At most ? Take you another month to sell it ?

or having to sell the car cheaper to get shot.

- I wouldn't have thought it worth the risk.

Difficult to say yes or no, what year and reg letter/number is it, also 60k is not high now days.

Given the car has twice the average mileage, with the front in poor nick, I'd bite his hand off.

I would eat his arm too. Go for it, you may not get a better offer.

I would take it too. I was in this situation recently. I had an offer on my car which I thought a bit low, but took it anyway. My ad was on autotrader for another 2 weeks after and I had no more inquires, so I was glad I took it.

Do NOT bite the hand that feeds... But a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Not forgetting, of course, that it's many a mickle that misses a muckle.

Anyone for a hand-picked piece of pickled pepper to go with that arm?

It's been my experience that a bird in the hand does it on your wrist.

Must be Jan 02, so I guess a facelift model, 3.5 years old so average ish mileage, I would take the deal in the absence of another one though (assuming the bonnet chips are the only fault and that they are not caused by a poor accident repair in the past) I reckon the buyer is getting a very slightly better deal that you.

doh! yes jan 02

oh and hand bitten off - she's collecting tonight. I don't feel too bad as I haven't yet advertised it in the autotrader magazine - just done the interet only so that's £70 saved (was about to advertise it in magazine today)

Sell, with the way the economy really is (behind all the debt.)

GD, you've done the right thing by all accounts here.

IMO Parkers do seem to be over the top with a lot of their valuations. Glasses and good advice from main dealers has always served me well.
