Dunno about best but Zymol is the most expensive.

agree with v8man
Do it once a year in May after all salt/tar etc removed from car. last long time /keeps gloss and cheap and easy to use.
(My 2 bottles have lasted 6 years so far and half full:-)
I use carwash shampoo in water when I wash the car.. helps remove dirt easier..

Bought a bottle of MER the other week, what a load of rubbish that is. Very easy to use, but doesn't last more than a couple of washes. I have found Comma Top Gloss from Wilkos the best.
Zymol is good if you get the proper HD Cleanse and solid cyan wax in a tub, but the Turtlewax licensed versions in Halfords are no good at all.

I was stopped by a stranger the other day at one of my regular parking places (to take the dog for a walk), who said he had admired my 1999 Bora's shiny Reflex Silver paintwork for some time and asked what car polish I used?
I said AutoGlym and he immediately knew the brand. After a few minutes' chat he went on his way, stating he would be using the firm's products for his Volvo in future.
So it seems all the hard work keeping the VW looking smart does get noticed, although I suspect that its silver paintwork plays a role.

I've been using MER for several years now. Both cars in the family only get treated to it twice a year, and any water that gets on the car still beads several months later, and the cars still have their shine when they're washed.

I'm a convert from Mer (Autoglym formula has been changed so many times, you never knew what you were getting.
Now a keen fan of www.meguiars.co.uk . Not the easist website to negotiate, but VERY easy to use products, producing first class results!

I fully agree with Dynamic dave - I've used Mer (polish every three months and wax wash-two capfulls to a bucket, every week, for the past fifteen years.) The paintwork on two successive 305s and my present Aerodeck has remained in excellent condition. Even left for a month without wax washing the water still beads. I buy the polish in 3 ltr. bottles, they last about two years.
I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Converted from Autoglym to Meguires 3 stage protection which uses a real wax as the final stage unlike Extra Gloss Protection.
No need to repeat the 3 stages regularly if you top up the wax coat after 5 washes or so.
Gives a really excellent finish and gets rid of swirl marks etc.

I used to use Mer on my British Racing Green(2 Pack) JPR Wildcat (etype lookalike). Initially it was great but after a couple of years use the paint started to dull off quickly after polishing. A paint specialist told me that Mer has properties closer to "T" cut than polish and that I had damanged the paint surface.
Sadly I no longer have the car (pesky kids!) , however on my sensible family cars I now use Meguires Gold Class. Expensive but worth it, the LASTING finish is superb.

One thing's for sure - Mer is easier to spell than Meguiars! Even the link above doesn't work - I suspect spelt wrongly!!

No. It was the full stop placed right at the end of the .co.uk
All it needed was a space adding ;o)

autoglyms synthetic wax is far superior than maguiars 3 stage!!
real wax is old stock!
you cant compare with any synthetic sealant(zaino, einszett)!!

I did wonder if the Mer I bought was fake, as I bought it off ebay at a much better price than Half's inclusing postage.
Maybe it's not compatible with the ZIP wax wash I use? All I know is that after 3 washes, when I rinse after washing, it takes a while for a sheet of water to disperse before it beads reluctantly. With the Comma, I only polished before and after winter, and it was very cheap.
Have just bought 5 litres of automatic carwash polymer wax rinse for £8, I mix a cap in water and spong it over the car after rinsing and rinse again, it beads like crazy and looks like it has just been polished!

Rishab, what is this stuff you are using?
I was considering changing out of 'doom blue' cars because they are difficult to keep clean/hide dirt. I quite like red...
