I have a few queries that I am hoping you knowledgeable men may be able to help with.
I have a Renault Laguna dCi 2003 model that is soon to turn 100K. Although it has been very reliable and cheap to run I fancy a change. So I went down to my local Renault dealer to have a look at the new Laguna dCi. I was impressed with what I saw - although the outside is basically the same, the interior is redesigned and it felt more solid. But I can't decide on colour or whether to get leather interior or not.

My first query is do these things matter for resale? I fancy a silver Laguna again but am not sure if the cost of leather is offset by higher resale value.

My second query is am I better trying to sell my Laguna privately? It's high mileage so I am not expecting much for it.

Thirdly, are certain colours better than others at holding value? My Uncle used to buy beige Mercedes with manual gearboxes because he said no one else wanted them. But he used to run his cars until they died.

Thanks to all who may reply.

The money you pay extra for leather will not be recouped when you sell the car so unless you are desperate for it i would say don't bother.

With it's mileage the dealer will sell your car through the auction and the price they offer you will be low. see what the dealer will offer for it, you will probably get a bit more selling it privately but the market for 2 year old very high mileage laguna's will be a small one so you may struggle to sell it quickly.

Colours that don't hold value on this sort of car are non-metallic's and strange shades that will date quickly. Silver is common but will be easier to sell privately.

Well you are making the right choice with the 1.9dCi again - it holds its value best.

Colours - you need metalic, None of the renault metalics are "gaudy wont sell" colours - hologram grey is classy.

Dont know what model you have now but to get full leather you have to go for the top of the range models. Look at the mid range models (Dynamique - comes with part leather seats and the boot spoiler really does improve the looks)

If I get another goona I will specify full colour sat nav.

I got many positive comments on the Pale Green (Almond) metallic pearl on my Tourer - much rarer than silver. A quick glance at the Renault site seems to show that the interior choices are grey or carbon - the 'tan' that is available on the continent (and on Meganes/Scenics, for example) is horrible, in my opinion...

The Tan? yes seen it - reminds me of a maize prison dirty protest!

What model have you got? Did the dealer offer a part exchange price?

If you are willing to sell the car yourself, eBay should ensure a quick sale. Assuming a 1.9 dci Dynamique in very good condition, I'd value the car at about £5k-£5,500 part exchange and maybe £1k more privately, although there aren't any 100k 03 plate Lagunas on the Trader to compare against.

List on the Extreme 120 dci is £14k and a broker may give you another £1k off, but your local dealer will now do you three years' interest free, which is probably worth £700 over 3 years if you would otherwise be a cash purchaser, and maybe £600 over 2 years as a finance buyer (assuming a cost to change of £9k).

My Laguna is a Dynamique. Didn't get into discussing a trade-in price with the salesman at this stage, was just looking. My brother has expressed an interest in taking on my Laguna so I may be able to go to the dealer for a cash sale.

I am not expecting to get much for my Laguna, with almost 100K on the clock the value will be hit hard. Maybe 4K? It's a shame because the car is immaculate and has FSH by Renault. It's been a good loyal servant. Interior is like new since only I travel in it and I've had one of those wooden bead covers on my seat - excellent for long journeys. There are a few stone chips on the windscreen and front bumper but generally the exterior is spotless, no dents or scratches. Woman driver see, careful ;-)

As for leather, no I don't need it but I thought it might make a change. I spend a lot of time in my car. Might be a bit uncomfortable in hot weather though.

As for colour, the dealer had a new shape dCi in a sort of dark blue metallic which looked nice.

I bought a copy of Diesel Car magazine since they have tested the new Laguna. Looks like there's a 170 bhp version in the pipeline so maybe once I've put 100K on the new Laguna I will get one of those.

Thanks to all. Will let you know how I get on.
