Hi
Not my car but my mate has an old shape 1995 Rover 214i and is having performance issues. He has just had the headgasket done and a new cam belt. The car has run fine for a couple of weeks and now is seriously down on power.
I have drove the car and cannot get it past 4000revs...its like the rev limiter is kicking in although I dont think it has one!!
We have replaced the plugs and air filter as they were due anyway but has made no difference.
The car is going back to the garage but any ideas would be great so to give them a few ideas or something that can easily be fixed..
Thanks

sorry also forgot to mention that the car will rev right round when in neutral, its just under load that it dies....

May be a vacuum leak?.
As its doing it all the time.It may show up on diagnostics if electrical fault..

Cam belt jumped, head gasket failed between two cylinders, check compression. Is it lumpy at tick over ??. Fueling problem, low pressure or a pump problem, blocked filter. Regards Peter

Hi
Thanks for the response... tickover is fine and the problem has only come about since it went in for HG change. When driving at low revs, say 4th at 30 and you put your foot down performance seems unaffected, just at high revs.... one other point is that the car does seem a little jerky when putting foot on and taking off accelerator.
Car is going to garage tomorrow but they do seem next to useless....

Blocked exhaust? Maybe they dropped something down there when they had the head off.
