There are many others.

The last time I was in Spain (drove from Malaga back to the UK) we had one overnight stay in San Sebastian. We just drove around until we found a suitable hotel - cost was £15 each including breakfast.

Dont know if you're on a budget, but if you are try www.speedferries.com for the crossing. I think its currently at £50 return (regardless of how long you're away for)

If you are coming to our neck of the woods, (Western Costa del Sol), you might be interested in this link to our local English language site. A question on the forum will often elicit helpful replies!

We have driven from CDS to UK twice now. We usually take two overnight stops as we aren't so young as we used to was!

We have found a very good cheap hotel chain in France known as - wait for it - B&B Hotels! (They do have a web site I think) They charge around 38 Euros per night for a room and have, unlike the Formula One chain,(who also have a web site), en-suite bathrooms.

If you are coming via Madrid, there is a pretty good 4**** hotel, Hotel Cuidad de Burgos, web site tinyurl.com/4qcjo just off and visible from the motorway at Burgos. Cost around 60 ish Euros for a double room.

South of Madrid there is a Formula One on the Industrial Estate (Poligono Industrial) and freight distribution depot at Getafe

"B&B Hotels! (They do have a web site I think)"

yep, they do. I can also recommend them. They are "motel" style - room door is to outside if you see what I mean - also usually have scrambled egg and bacon for breakfast!

Similar price are "Etap" hotels with continental breakfast but rooms are accessed through a reception area as it were. You can pay by credit card at any hour of the day via a machine at "reception"

more expensive (50 euros ish per room) but with bar and restaurant are Ibis

And of course there are Logis de France - often very cheap family run and often with fantastic (cheap!!) food

We drive down annually to Portugal but this year went to Southern Spain. Used Speedferries to Boulogne in 40 minutes at a cost of £50.00 booked on the internet or £60.00 by phone.
They were excellent although they only have one boat but another due in April/May.
If you feel happier pre-booking overnight accomodation so be it but there really is no need unless you go in August.
We have never booked as its so easy to find. Any town you pass you can simply drive in and find somewhere with no problem which gives you more flexibility.
Speedferries also allow you to return on any ferry if you happen to be late or early on return simply by paying £10.00 on arrival at the port.
