Carrying spare bulbs. France? - pmh
Looking at a current thread regarding the cost of HID replacements, does this mean that you are required to carry a spare bulb (CE marked of course) in the spare bulb kit that is required for continental touring. And all the workshop tools necessary to fit it? Next thing is fitting will only be allowed by a certifed "mechanic" or other suitably qualified person. Does he travel in the boot or do we all have to give up one seat for this additional passenger. There is one upside at least, you will be able to travel in multi occupancy only car lanes! :)

There is advice on the AA website, which points out that spare bulb kits are "recommended"
www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/overseas/compulsory_equ...l
Relevant section says
"A spare bulb kit will not avoid a fine if you are travelling with faulty lights, but replacing a bulb on the spot may avoid the cost and inconvenience of a garage call out. On some cars it is inadvisable or indeed impossible for anyone other than a qualified technician to change a headlamp bulb or lamp unit eg high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, so carrying spare bulbs is not an option. However, carry spare bulbs for any lights which can be easily and/or safely changed"

For each of the cars in my household I have made up my own kit of spare bulbs and fuses.
I bought two offcuts of foam 6x4x2 inches.
I then snipped out hollows for each bulb etc and then sandwiched them in the foam, tied up with string and stored in the boot.
In the case of my Mondeo I store them inside the rear light cluster cover.
With each vehicle I carefully checked out the precise bulbs required and found both my user manual and Haynes had errors, as did the Powerbulbs list. In addition I carry a couple of the large £5 fuses required by the Mondeo and the very large blade fuses for the Focus.
I am content that I have a full kit, except for dash bulbs, as no such thing is available off the shelf.

Do not bank on a filling station having a good range of bulbs.
E.G. The Yaris has very non standard bulbs which I understand are a type used on motorbikes.
