Hello everyone, my sister is thinking of selling her Micra (once the throttle body is fixed), and i was wondering how much users on this forum thinks its worth. The car is a 1994 L, Nissan Micra 1.3LX, its three door, silver metallic, 85000 miles, its been very well looked after by my sister (sadly she has lost most of the service history in the house move). Its had - 4 new tyres, regular services, synthetic oil changes every 5 months or 5000 miles (which ever comes soonest), its recently had the rear of the car professionally resprayed (paint was slightly faded), the interior is always clean (i used to be a professional valet), its had the known micra problems fixed - including the front cross member, and its just had the original gearbox reconditioned and a new clutch fitted (both have 11 months warranty left), and the car has september 05 mot, and june tax. she has set her sights on a T-reg Clio hence the sale of the Micra. So the question is, how much do you think this car is worth???
P.S. if anybody has a 1998 onwards Clio for sale please let me know, and many thanks in advance for any responses :-)

All i want is a rough estimate for the car. She bought the car just over two years ago, for £1125, and has looked after it ever since. The cost of the parts/work recently done are...
gearbox/clutch - £356, front cross member - £210, 4 viking tyres - £128, respray - £150, full service - £113, various other bits - £176 (including brake pads, discs, wipers, radio, etc).

800 quid sold privately, 500 quid in part exchange.

My sister wants £1100 ono for the micra, but would take less if it was going to a good home (its my sisters first car), the better the home, the lower the price.
|
Quick look at the Autotrader ads suggest £800 is nearer the mark. Is she seriously expecting to lose only £125 in two years of owning the car?
I understand everything about being emotionally attached to your car and wanting it to go to a good home (to the extent that I will have to part exchange Polo to make sure I don't have to see who's getting their mits on him next) but there's emotional attachment and there's being unrealistic.
|
But PoloGirl she isnt just losing £125, she is losing about £1100 in new parts.
|
Problem is, if £1,125 was a fair price two years ago, it is bound to be lower now - Autotrader is as good a guide as any of what is being asked for cars, and very few will be going at the asking price.
While your sister has clearly looked after the car, and this will help the sale of it, items such as replacement of tyres are viewed by buyers as simply consumables. Driving is expensive, unfortunately. The re-spray may even arouse suspicion rather than help the sale
All the best

£1100 in new parts means nothing. As explained this is consumables, required to keep the car in tip top condition, and make it saleable at its top "good" price which is 800 quid.
Thats life.
|
Sorry consumables was the wrong word. Cost of motoring is better. She cant recover the cost of her motoring through the sale of her car.
|
|
Given that the car only cost her £1100, you have to ask yourself whether it was worth spending all that money on maintaining it?
|
The other thing going againt your sister is the lack of documented service history. When it comes to price, most buyers will assume the car hasn't got a service history if there isn't a stamped service record or receipts.
