Hi I have a 9 year old Civic which I have serviced my self for the past 5 years, oil, filters etc and it seems to run fine. The car passes its MOT with no problems. What checks and adjustments has the engine been missing out on over the last 5 years, if I was to put the car in for a tune up which tasks should I ask for? The engine is the 1.6 Vetec ESI.
Thanks Al

I'd suggest you ask for a valve clearance check and adjust if necessary, this being a requirement for most Honda engines. Also suggest have cooling system flushed out and new coolant of the correct spec. You could also do the same for the brake systemi.e.new brake fluid.Sometimes clutch free play will need adjusting if a cable type release mechanism. Finally ask to have the fault codes(if any) extracted from the engine,ABS and airbag systems.

Is this a cambelt engine? If so I'd check cambelt change intervals and get the cambelt changed if it's due.

Thanks for the tips, the collant and brake fluid have been replaced when due. The Cam belt probably does need replaced soon. And I will look into the valve clearances.
