I have an old Peugeot 205 XS 1.4L, it seems to be fine when running around town but when I try and take it over 60mph it seems to judder quite badly. I?ve replace the petrol pump as I thought it could be that but it didn?t help. The other day I ran it with out the air filter and it still wouldn?t go any faster but didn?t judder as much. Any suggestions would be very helpful as I have a 200 mile trip home for Xmas and I don?t want it to take 4 hours! Thanks

Have you checked the fuel filter.

If the problem is fuel starvation (fuel filter / pump), I would expect it to show up while accelerating, as well as limiting your top speed.
Another possibility is that an electrical problem is causing misfiring - high tension leads, spark plugs, distributor etc failing when stressed (assuming your 205 is old enough to have a distributor). But this should show up while accelerating as well.
So, do you have any problems when accelerating hard?
