Hi
I recently bought a 1998 Audi A4 V6. Its a US spec 2.8 30v with about 108K on it. There seems to be some noise coming from the cylinder heads, it sounds like the hydraulic lifters are clattering. Any ideas on how to approach this problem, before i consider fitting new lifters.
thanks

change the oil and filter.
Are you running a fully synthetic oil as per Audi spec?

Hi,
The oil was just changed before i bought the car. The invoice says castrol gtx, i figure this is mineral. I dont think that audi usa recommends synthetic for this car.

Castrol UK recommend:
Enginea
Viscosity options: all temperatures, 0W-30, 5W-30, 5W-40MAGNATEC 5W-30 A1
GTX is 20-50 and mineral. You will find oil takes ages to circulate on start up.
Filter may not be proper Audi one and may allow oil to drain out.
Change to proper 5-30 oil - semi syntheitic and Audi oil filter..
