The heater on our 1992 1.1 Metro has stopped working effectively. Even if it is turned on full heat (after the engine has warmed up) it still blows out cold air.
I've tried flushing the radiator/engine and refilling. I thought it was strange that it only took approx 2.5ltrs to refill - despite the manual giving a capacity of 4.5ltrs.
Any ideas? Is the heater matrix blocked? Should I try and force water through the heater inlet/outlet to clear it?
Thanks

IIRC it has a heater valve. Would think it may be siezed..Not certain. Rover 200/400 had one.Is a common prob on rovers.

It is very difficult to get all the water out of the system.
You will find that disconnecting the hose connection to the water pump will release more water.
I think that your problem may be caused by an air-lock.
The metro cooling system is well-known for being difficult to bleed.
The secret is to fill the system very slowly and at the same time squeeze all the hoses.
There are two bleed plugs (on the heater hose and on the coolant rail) which should be open during filling.

Thanks - when I refilled it I did make sure the bleed plugs were unscrewed. I screwed them back in when water started coming out of each one and then finished filling the system. I then squeezed the hoses to check for air locks. After all this I only managed the 2.5ltrs.
My thoughts were the heater matrix was blocked and therefore water wasn't going round (hence the lack of heat).

It's true about bleeding this vehicle- it's an absolute pig to do. The test is torun the engine until hot and feel the heater hoses. If one is hotand the other cold then you know you've got either a blockage or an airlock. Also, check the sliders are opening the flapto let hot air in. Remember also that the Metro heater is not air fed- you must switch the blower on to get air in. If either ofthe heater hoses are cold then I would suggest taking the hose off when its got cold and letting the air out. Good idea is to take off the bottom one to see if the water runs out.
Hope this helps
