I have 52 plate 130 bhp tdci with 28,000 miles on the clock.i first took my car back to the dealer when the car had only a couple of thousand miles on the clock. at around 1,800 rpm in top gear the car would judder (missing)this happened infrequently. The dealer remapped the ecu and checked the fuel filter.Itook the car back on three occasions but basically nothing happened.
Now two years on the problem has only got worse.still at the same rev range but more frequent and also in other gears.Has anyone had the same problem and had any success in resolving it

Extensive threads on this issue - look through the archives. Also, go to the mondeo owners site and look in their forum - again extensive and helpful advice. My understanding is that the problem can be cured by a replacement 'EGR valve'.

try:
www.fordmondeo.org
look in the forum under diesel and do a search. There are often lots of recent posts on the issue.

Inserting h t t p : / / infront of the url turns it into a link, with no spaces. Hope you don't mind me doing this for you :)

Just been to the site myself. There is a current relevant thread on the problem. Look in the forum under
'4 cylinder diesels'
and then go to the one about a fix for black smoke when accelerating.
Several of those owners had the flat spot too and it appears the egr valve replacement is a known fix for it. Unhappily, mondeo dealers seem to require more persuasion but, when pressed into doing the egr job, it seems to be the answer.

Thank you for your help .I will be straight back on to the dealer to get the pcm code updated and get them to look at the the EGR valve

I have had exactly the same trouble, I will try some injector cleaner first and keep my fingers crossed. Does anyone know where you can buy the revised EGR valve online, and if so how much it would cost? Also could it be done by an amateur mechanic, or would it be recommended to get a garage to do it. With the high cost of diesel these days it doesn't leave a lot of money left over for repairs, but I really do love how the TDCi fires past other cars, esp in 4th :) Thanks

just out of interest has anyone blanked of the egr valve on a common rail ?
on a tdi or pd engine you can just take the pipe off the manifold and insert a blank plate and then put the now blanked pipe back on ,it helps performance and even minimal benifit to fuel consumption ,dont see why common rail should be any different but just wondered

I turned mine off(I think) on my Pug HDI, just pulled a wire out. Stops it missing in cold weather, seems to have little effect in summer. Currently plugged in at the moment as it had an MOT the other week :-) (although it has passed in the past with it unplugged)

get the EGR and possibly the inlet manifold cleaned out, and check the rubber boost hose below the egr off and inspect for splits

does the EGR have an electrical sensor? some do, some dont
if it doesnt, blank away
if it does you need SOME airflow to fool the ECU, drill a 5mm hole oin the blanking plate.
