Could be an expensive mistake - unleaded in the diesel tank and diesel in the unleaded. Take care if you filled up in Hull.

Well, if it happens to affect anyone, it will be expensive for the fuel supplier via (I would suspect) a very angry supermarket organisation...:-))

"Asda will pick up bills for repairing the damage to any cars affected if the customers have receipts for the correct time."

Forgive my naivety but how do people who pay with cash claim?

In the 2 years I've been buying petrol, the only time I get a receipt is when I've paid by card. By cash, no-one has given me a receipt. I'm sure you'd be able to ask for one but why would you? On the offchance of there being dodgy fuel?

Adski - warning, always ask for a receipt if you pay by cash. Some years ago a retired friend of my father bought petrol and paid cash with no receipt. He drove off and was stopped by the police a few miles away; the overworked operator in the garage saw his car drive off, could not see who was driving and thought that the car had driven off without paying. In order to clear himself, as he had no receipt, he had to drive back to the garage followed by Plod, whereupon the operator said "oh yes, I remember the face now, he did pay. Sorry". This could have turned very nasty if he had refused to go back voluntarily, or if the operator at the garage had forgotten his face etc.
Be warned - not just you, but all those others who pay cash; always ask for a receipt.

Cheap agency staff working for sub-contractors, and also, where was ASDA's designated "Competant Person"? Probably doing paperwork in the back or eating a penguin.

I dont blame him sitting down round the back, those penguins are a real beggar to catch

Its bound to happen with thousands of deliveries being made every day unless its made technically impossible.
My son in law used to drive tankers for Wincanton badged as Esso I think. The driver is not supposed to lift the manhole covers but he points out that with girls in charge this isn't practical in many locations. He tells me that you become neurotic in keep checking the fuel line from the tanker to the connection to make sure you havent got it wrong. But..it still happened at his depot and the driver is in big trouble when it does. Even bigger trouble if he doesn't recognise his mistake and immediately inform his depot and have the affected pumps shut down.
All his deliveries were in the night when often there is just one person on duty locked behind a door. He also tells of one filling station in the West Midlands late at night when some lowlife were shooting air guns at the tanker while he was discharging.
Also yobs on their way home coming in to give grief to the driver. No wonder it can happen..
