Suzuki Wagon R+ - Happy Blue!
We are about to replace my mothers car. Because of age and infirmity, we are looking at smaller and taler cars and have narrowed the choice down to a couple or three models, but the most suitable from my mother's perspective is the Wagon R+ with auto box.

We have seen a couple of examples, about 2 or 3 years old with less than 15,000 miles. Seems to well well looked after.

I know its not a great car to drive. Mainly interested in convenience for an older driver and reliability.

Any thoughts/experiences?

From what I've read in the motoring press, it is a far better car than most people will give it credit for. The Vauxhall Agila is basically the same thing but with different engine(s). If it has been well looked after, it should be a good bet.

Espada - a good choice, one of a few cars which will probably be more reliable than your trajet!

One major thing to watch out for, and something i was shocked to see inside a north-west dealership very recently on oe of their show room wagon-r - rust under neath the rear wheel arches and under the back bumper.
(maybe they have to be treated before sale - seems unlikely)

But certainly great car, and if they provide hald as reliable as the baleno should run forever.

I expect an expensive parts lists, and spares should be few and far between especially sincce the model recieved a face-lift.

Put it this way, the agila which is more or less the same car is probably the most reliable vauxhall available.

{No need to shout, which is what you\'re doing by posting in upper case letters - which has now been amended. This is not the 1st time it has been mentioned to you either!!! DD}

My aging grandfather had one up until a few months ago but he has now given up driving altogether. Same spec as you are considering - 1.3 auto. I only drove it once and it obviously didn't melt the tarmac, but for round town work it was great. Easy to get in to and good all round visibility. He did about 30,000 miles in it and it never let him down, economy was mid thirties.

Thanks for that.

We have narrowed the choice down to a 52 model about 25 miles from home with all the extras on (I think it was called a Special) and 15,500miles, or one which is 18 months older with just 6,000 miles but 220 miles away. I am trying to persuade my father to go for the nearer one as the price difference isn't enough to justify the older car.

They are seeing the newer one this morning. Will keep you posted.

Ran a Y plater for 20 months & 22K miles until the other half crash tested. 3 Suzuki we've run and very reliable. Cost me £ 9,200 OTR with Suzuki fit A/c, 1.3 Auto in met blue.
Genrally great enthusiastic dealers. Servicing costs not bad, fuel consumption around 35-38 & I don't drive gently. Even commuted it for 6 months around the M25 when the job changed and although busy copped with it well. Nicer to drive than some economy motors and very comfortable. Changed the opinion of some of my mates when they drove it, makes a lot of sense although the missus hated it cos it had no snob value!!
Be careful of pads cos it has NO low pad warning light.
Vauxhall don't do an Auto in the Agila & I've had enough of being treated like dirt in Vaux dealers when I was spending big money so assumed they'd be worse if you were driving a bottom of their range motor. It's built in Hungary and uses lots of GM bits whether Vaux or Suzi. Better engine in the Suzuki than the Agila IMHO.
