Peugeot 307 H.D.I.ceramic filter. - CQ
I have four 307 in my fleet, one is due it's 48k service. The Peugeot garage have informed the driver that a fuel additive is required plus a ceramic particulate filter needs to be replaced at a cost of around five hundred pounds. The supplying dealer's sevice manager "thinks" that the parts are issued f.o.c.by Peugeot, the servicing garage disputes this.
Any thoughts or comments.Car is 52 reg.(Oct)

Is the filter blocked/corroded or is this a routine service requirement ?. Is the car running badly etc.

My C5 has the particulate filter. I have only done 35,000 miles yet, but I have heard stories of an 'expensive' service at 50,000 miles. Some stories say the filter is replaced, others say it is taken out and power washed (at great expense!) I haven't asked my dealer about it yet. Mind you, it is impressively effective. After 35,000 miles I can still poke my finger up the exhaust pipe and take it out clean. I have never seen anything come out out of the tailpipe!

The EOLYS fluid will also have to be replenished. I've a feeling it's a bit pricey too. If you listen carefully, the first time you switch off the engine after a refill of diesel, you'll hear a little pump whirring away - automatically dosing the fresh tank of diesel with EOLYS.

I expect the technology will become cheaper as it is taken up by more manufacturers.

The 'FAP' (particulate filter) is a block of porous silicon carbide which traps soot particles. Because the filter would get blocked, it is 'regenerated' by injecting the 'Eolys' fluid which makes the particles combustable and thus keeps the filter clean.
I must say that I thought the filter needed replacing at 72k miles - but it may been sooner I guess - you would need to check with Pug. I doubt the filters could be 'power washed' due to their enormous surface area.
I think that its highly unlikely that Peugeot would pay for the parts, since they are 'service items' - and, yes, the filters are expensive!

Incidentally, this technology (and the engines) were a joint Peugeot/Ford development.

Just checked this a few days ago with my dealer. £680 (inc VAT parts and labour) for the filter and the noxious liquid. Now (June 2005) there is such a shortage, of either the filters or the noxious fluid or both, that Peugeots are coming off the line without the stuff fitted and are thus not Euro 4 compliant, although they will have to be by 1/10/05. If I am still running my car when this becomes due I shall ask to have the non particulate exhaust fitted ie the one they are fitting now. It isn't worth paying £700 at 72,000 miles to save a few £s a year on your road fund IMHO!
