New Scenic Electric Sunroof - BobbyG
Please don't turn this into a Renault bashing thread!

Just picked up brand new Scenic, brought home, showing off the electric sunroof and now it won't close fully! Book says that it may bounce back if it hits something but it is not. I can press the centre of the button to make it creep forward according to the book, but this isn't working.

I realise that it will need to go back to dealer, of course no mechanics in till Monday, have called the AA out but atthis moment in time he is dumbfounded as well!

Anyone know of this problem and how to fix?

Ho Bobby,
Congrats on the new car and sorry about the roof. RenaultFamily had this problem I thinkg with a '99. He'll be able to help...I think

Unfourtunatley my Renault workshop CD's do not cover the scenic 2 however looking at the laguna2 manual it seems to indicate that the motor has lost "home" and needs to be calibrated.

1/ is it controlled by a knob?

If it is then

1 set sunroof switch to maximum tilt postion
2 press and hold the switch after two seconds the sunroof will tilt to maximum postion in step by step mode then drop down a few cm's
3 release the switch
4 press the switch again within 5 seconds
5 keep the switch depressed the sunroof will open then close in the slide postion
6 the motor is initialised
7 set the switch to stop

Note the delay between two successive action must not exceed 5 seconds during the actions above or the computer will stop initialising the system

Note the anti pinch function can be disabled to overcome a hard stop point (bent rail, dirt etc) - maintain the press until the sun roof is closed in step by step mode.

Note in the event of failure the sunroof can be closed by using an allen key in the motor shaft

RF, thanks for that. The AA guy managed to get it shut eventually though he is not sure how he got it done. I have to take it back to the dealer tomorrow and he will get it sorted and "make sure I am taken care of!". Hopefully that means a set of mats or something!

However, of course being curious, I can see me having a try at your instructions! Just to clarify, this sunroof lifts up and slides back over the back "sunroof" (which doesn't open).
It is controlled by a round knob, which has 2 markings on it for fully closed, and fully open, with something like 3 positions in between.

1. If I turn the knob to maximum open position the sunroof will lift and slide itself without me needing to press any other knobs?

Also, where is the motor shaft, is it behind the control knob somewhere? I realise that you are looking at Laguna as opposed to Scenic!

RF, yet again, many thanks for your help.

PS, This event prompted me to have a family clearout of the garage yesterday just in case the car needed to go in. If the item hadn't been used since last summer, it went straight in the bin! Then I discovered that with the roof aerial at the rear of the Scenic, it was too high for the garage door. Unlike my old Scenic where you could angle the aerial, I think this one is a fixed position! Probably unscrews though!

Yes the aerial unscrews, I found mine was fairly tight if you turn it where it gets thicker near the base it will unscrew.

And unscrew it asap, lubricate the threads with vaseline or coperslip, then screw it back, these things sieze as soon as look at them.

Cant comment further on that I just copied the Laguna 2 technical note verbatim, as I say my CDs dont cover the scenic 2 fully.

Re the allen key you need to remove the trim round the motor

Get your dealer to copy you the technical note on sunroofs for future reference.
