If you went for the C5, you would be much better off with the HDI engines. Don't know what the Vauxhall diesels are like. There are also a few second hand HPIs to be had at car supermarkets for very low prices. I had a test drive in one recently and was quite impressed. They are all Exclusive models, so very well equipped.

The new 1.9CDTi is v.good. 150 bhp, and bags of torque. I was loaned one a short while ago just after deciding on getting the 2.2i Petrol engine. Wish I had test drove it before making my mind up. Still, the Elegance I did chose has bags of toys and 155bhp under the bonnet. Shame it doesn\'t have the same manners when it comes to drinking fuel.

The rear leg and headroom is poor in the Vectra, compared with the C5. Also, I think ,the trim is dull and dreary, all grey/black.

The C5 is a very nice car, but don't pay too much. My local main dealer has an 04 plate genuine ex-demo (950 miles) 1.8VTR on his pitch stickered at £9995.

The 1.8 isn't a bad engine, sure the HDi's are better but they command a fair price premium.
