I have a 96 A4 tdi 110bhp that sometimes in 1st gear (not always and only ever in 1st) behaves a little annoyingly.
When driving at a constant 1500ish rpm, the car will begin to kangaroo very badly (SWMBO accuses me of pumping the accelerator).
I think that I might already have a MAF or ECU problem as very occasionally the car will not accelerate very well at all but this will clear itself when the engine is turned off and restarted.
Any advice would be welcome as the car is under warranty for another month or so.

Not sure about the kangaroo hops, but the non-acceleration sounds like a MAF problem. Happened to my 97 Passat in third gear at about 2,300 rpm.
Whip it back and claim under the warranty sharpish.

May also be worth checking the Catalytic converter is not collapsing - seems to be a weakness on the TDI's

Th catalytic converter problem - all TDIs to 1999 was due to a manufacturing defect - incorrect internal welding. Sometimes shown up by a rattle from the exhaust on idle. Mine was replaced under warrnty (1998 model)
