no not the drink!

once my 1.4 petrol engine in my focus is warmed up, on tick over beacause that's the only time its probably quiet enough, i develops a wine metal noise ie

wine...........................wine.........................wine

not constant, intermident, but regular 1 second intervals lasting for half a second.

if it serious i would take it to the dealer as its 52 reg but its just inconvenient.

any help please?

Whining noises *generally* come from drive belts. Worse case senario is the cam belt tensioner bearing on it's way out, but before going down that route, try either squirting a bit of wd-40 or dusting some chalk on the alternator belt to see if it quietens down at all.

What's the mileage, btw?

Sounds like an over-tight cambelt to me.

Your whine could well be cam belt tensioner.it was a common problem on early escorts.ie cam belt being overtightened causes premature wear of bearing.
