All the better for some new plugs & leads, but still think it could go better (or rather, idle more smoothly). Had a little tug at the rotor arm with a view to buying a new one, and it didn't seem to shift - is there a knack to this? AAR engine.

Hi,
My 1993 Polo has a slight rough idle too, but for unrelated ussues, I changed the Distributor cap and roator arm on mine. The arm is well fixed on, and need a fair amount of pull to get it off. Tug a little harder and it should just pop off,(I dont think its clipped on or anything) but yours is different to mine so maybe its fixed on differently.
If you have a Haynes handy, have a flick through and see what it says.
Hope this is of some help.

This rotor arm is actually glued on to the distributor shaft. To remove it you'll have to gently break it apart or more elegantly cut it off with a mini-disc on a dremel type tool.Ensure no bits of the rotor fall into the distributor.

Thanks, David.
Oh bliss. Nothing more or less than I would have expected. If I ever meet the man who designed this engine...
