Just wanted to know your opinion on something:
Whilst having a look at the new exhaust Ive had fitted, I noticed that the rubber exhaust hangers looked a bit tired. (lots of open cracks) The ones that are on, are not too old, (23/11/03) and was therefore wondering whether or not there was anything I could do to prolong their life a little more than a pathetic 5 months, as I doubt this is their normal lifespan?
Any ideas? I had thought of spraying the new set with something like Armerall or similar product.
Many thanks
Daniel

Not sure what Armerall is, but I would use Holts Rubber Lubricant spray - never had a fan belt (or washing machine belt) failure in years since I started periodic doses of it.

I doubt they are 5 months old. They must have been secondhand when they were fitted - either that or they were fitted under tremendous strain and are being pulled apart. Hangers usually outlast the exhaust.

They do come in different sizes. If a smaller one had been levered on it would be under great tension and would fail prematurely.

Hi, thanks for all the responses so far.
Thanks frostbite, that sound like the product I need. Armerall is probably a similar product, its a rubber protector, fighting off water mainly, and stops it from drying out and perishing.
I know that these are 5 months old, because I bought and fitted them (well my dad fitted them :)) However, I think your on to something regarding the stress. My dad said they were a pain to fit, with one of them needing to be stretched in order to fit the other.
From this I have gathered that I may have fitted the wrong size, although if they were any bigger I think that the exhaust would hang too low as it appears to be at just the right height at the moment.
Thanks for the replies.
