We are going on an extended (6 weeks trip) to Europe fairly soon and I'm wondering what to do about the dipped headlight business.I'm not planning to do any serious night driving, but there is of course the requirement to use dipped headlights in bad weather and tunnels. Years ago I tried various stick-on gadgets which didn't do much, and then for some years I didn't bother with anything, but now I have growing guilt feelings when I visit the AA and RAC etc websites. I've got a Mondeo TDCi which has electrically-operated headlamp adjustment, but it also has plastic lenses (but not HID or Xenon lights) which I'm worried about sticking things on to. Anybody got any thoughts/suggestions, please? Graham

Last year when I went abroad in my Alfa (xenons with plastic lenses) I bought some headlight deflectors from Halfords, cut a small piece (about 3cm square), and using garage door, stuck on the pass side headlight, blocking the right part of the beam. Worked well, drove at night with no problems.
When it came to taking it off I had to wash the glue off thoroughly but it came off!

You were lucky PR. I'm still struggling to get the rock-hard glue off my N/s lens on my 156 from last February! Picked some similar deflectors up on the ferry on the last 3 trips since then and have had no problems.

Went to holland last autumn, used the halfords stick on deflectors. The glue came off the (plastic) lenses of my laguna no problem but should be done when warm(ie leave the lights on for 15 mins to warm it up nicely)
Deflectors is a bit of silly name, they dont deflect they just cut off the "kicked up left" beam pattern.

Graham, I went to my main dealer and asked about this last year. They produced a photocopied document which showed how to set up the Mondeo headlights - they provided a template which showed the area to black out and I did this using masking tape - came off easily at the end of the trip.
However, having gone through all that hassle I was more than surprised that the vast majority of GB cars in France just hadn't bothered...
I've still got the document somewhere & I'll use it again this year...or maybe I won't...
