I have recently bought a Mk2 jaguar. Went to insure it and pleasently supprised to find it only cost me £90.This makes running an old classic all the more enjoyable.I suppose i will be paying for it with the fuel though.
Roll on the summer.

sounds like good deal but is there a high excess or limited mileage etc etc?? insured as second car? compoulsury membership of owners club? classic car insurance broker?

Classic insurance usually comes in a variety of options, mileage limitations being the main cost-saver. Mine gives options ranging from 1500 up to 10,000 miles pa, obviously at increasing price.
Excess is not normally excessive (!), but as with ordinary insurance, there would be different options at different prices.
The best thing about classic insurance, apart from the low cost, is the agreed value. This means you get the real value to you if your cherished car gets damaged, not some knock-down write-off value that doesn't reflect all your love and attention.

IMO a classic is by far the best way of running a second lower-mileage car. Combined with no tax, easy maintenance, much lower MOT standards, it makes obvious sense. Plus, in your case at least, a lot of fun!

For real economy "motoring" get a classic tractor. Insurance £26 pa, no tax, no MOT, no maintenance, unlimited mileage,no roof, no doors!

Tell us more, David Canning. I thought I was getting a bargain with the insurance on my old Capri, but yours is much lower. Which insurer and broker? What excess? What mileage? What agreed value? Etc.

sounds like a really good deal, the only unexpected restriction on my classic insurance is that it does not cover you for other vehicles. Does this one?

Most of the policies I've checked are for the 'classic' not being the main vehicle. So the 'drive other car' comes with the 'main' insurance.

But my main vehicle, like many other people, is a company car so I have no insurance of my own on that anyway, I think it's just a money saver.

Roger Jones. Try Peart of Kendal for classic insurance. I had a £3,500 car (agreed Value) on 3,000 miles a year for £90.

I have classic insurance - with no mileage limit.
Classic Insurance - commerdriver
go on then, how much extra did it cost? or alternatively how much could you have saved with a mileage limit.
I guess for many classic users the mileage limits are fairly incidental. For example I haven't done over 1500 miles in a year in the Commer in the last 5 years

I'm with Footman James for my classics. Last year my Minor 1000 van insurance was £77, agreed value £2000, unlimited mileage, £50 excess, breakdown recovery cover, IPT and motor legal expenses cover. Cars garaged at home address (rural Lincsolnshire) You have to be a club member at approx £20 pa. I added a Rover 3500S to the same policy, all the same conditions except agreed value of £1500 on the Rover, for an amazing £15 more. This year the renewal for the two on the same policy was only £80. It's about the only time I smile when paying for insurance.
It makes a whole fleet of classics a viable proposition (that's what I tell my wife).

Fine, but Aon takes over £400 from me for 3,000 miles - and it barely does 1,000 - on Supra ("modern classic"). Perhaps I should shop around.

"Watch the tail in the wet" - well, with slip control off, mine can do a bit too!

Love Capris.
