I suppose this fuel is intended to rival Shell Optimax.
Filled up the other day with BP Ultimate diesel and noted that it was 6p a litre dearer than my usual Total. Only did it because we do not have the BP or Shell round our way.
It better be good - a big improvement in mpg is needed to make it pay.
Only obvious change is a bit livelier acceleration up hills. The instantaneous/cumulative mpg readings do not seem to show a vast improvement so far.
Anyone used it with real results?

I tried that too in my 1.8 TD Escort. It didn\'t seem to make much difference in performance but it did seem to make the engine a little bit quieter unless that was just my imagination.

That's 30% dearer before tax/duty!
Rediculous!

There is an article on the www.autoexpress.co.uk website which says the advertising watchdog has "rapped" Shell for their Optimax adverts
This is the story.....
Shell has been rapped for making claims about its Optimax petrol that ex-perts say aren't true.
The company said in leaflets that its product "gives you an extra burst of fuel when you need it", but the Advertising Standards Agency ruled this would not apply to all cars. The judgement also said Optimax may not be "the best performance unleaded", as claimed by Shell

Optimax is only of benefit to the performance car.
For instance, on Mk IV Supra with Superchip there is a definite improvement over premium unleaded on my usual test strip; on Kia it does not make a bit of difference, indeed anything more than Tesco's is a waste of money.

I tried Ultimate Diesel for a bit in my Punto. It seemed to be the thingy's whatsits at first, but after about 3 tankfuls at 84p per litre I wasn't convinced that it was actually any better than the standard product. Have since gone back to tried and tested combination of Texaco and Millers, with usual excellent results.

I have been using BP Ultimate in an Audi A4 1.8T recently and have experienced a noticeable improvement in performance and achieved an extra 4 mpg.
You pays your money......

I've been using Safeway diesel on my C5 as I usually 5p per litre off if we do the weeks shopping in the supermarket. The fuel consumption with this diesel has dropped to about 41mpg.
I decided to try a brand name (Shell) fuel and to my surprise the engine ran a lot smoother/quieter and consumption rose to 46 mpg. That said the Shell was 2p a litre dearer than Safeways. Add the 5p discount which makes Safeway around 10% cheaper but its 10% less fuel efficient, so there's not much in it.
I'm going to try BP next.
