My 1994 Nissan Primera has developed an extremely annoying squeak. It is apparent between the speeds of 20 - 40 miles per hour and appears to be coming from the wheels on the nearside. The Car has done 80K miles.I have been coping by turning the volume of the radio up however this is not always convenient. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and how I may rectify the problem without having to pay a garage?
Many Thanks, Jez

How does it behave? i.e. does it go if you dab the brakes or get louder/quieter on a LH/RH curve?

Hi Aprilia,
The squeak is constant and doesn't alter when you turn, brake or accelerate.

Well, I really don't know then. I think I would have to hear it before making a suggestion.
Try a small local independent garage and get them to ride out in it with you - they should be able to make a stab at what it is.

I too had the same problem on a 1994 2L SGX I once owned (great handling car) & ISTR it was the anti-roll bar bushes? I think this is a not uncommon problem. Ring up & speak to a Nissan main dealer (service or parts dept), explain the problem & ask what they would diagnose. This is what I did, they were very helpful -then took it to a small independent to repair.

Great - Many thanks for your suggestion. I'll give Nissan a call in the morning. Totally agree about the handling, it's quite superb!

Is the noise constant, a bit like squealing brakes? Mrs Sheep's Primera did that, turned out to be a split in the driveshaft boot meant the CV joint was running dry.
Her car also suffers from whining noises from the rear, but I think that's called teenagers.

Hi Sheepy-by-the-Sea,
The noise is constant in that it is always there up to about 40mph. However it is not a constant screech like squealing brakes and not as intrusive!

I had this problem about 3 months ago.
I had the upper suspension arm changed for about £50. Thankfully it doesn't squeak anymore!
If it sounds like it's coming from the footwell and is driving you crazy, it's probably the same thing.
Cheers

Squeaky suspension bushes can sometimes be cured just by giving them a blast with a Waxoyl sprayer.

Thanks Cliff and PPaul for your suggestions.
The squeak has gone.
I haven't done anything to the Car and am confident it will return!
