Hi guys got a slight problem with my car , had to remove the drivers seat for another fault and now the airbag warning light has luminated , as i understand it i need to take it to a vauxhall dealership to reset it ?.Is there another way to reset the fault light.

Special equipt is needed to reset a/bag light. But you don't have to take it to main dealer. There are plenty of independent specialists with correct test/reset diagnostic gear.

Just make sure you get the fault code and meaning from them when they reset it, might indicate problems you were not even aware of.

After October 1997, they have side airbags in the seats, could be to do with the connection to those being lost, or the belt pre-tensioners. Any autoelectrical place can reset it, but beware of ones trying to pull a fast one.

Thanks guys for the help , i know there is no problem with the actual airbag system as it was ok before i disconnected the driver seat , i have checked and rechecked the connections which are ok , the reason i posted here was because i did read somewhere that you can short two terminals on the actual test socket to clear fault codes. But it seems like a trip to Vauxhall Main dealers for me and my experiance with the main dealers is not good .

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while?
Remember if you do though to make a note of radio codes and read the instructions in the handbook if you have a factory fit alarm.
|
Yes i did read somewhere if you disconnect the battery for a hour this clears the codes and the 20 engine start thingy which has not worked, i also read if 1 hour does'nt work then leave the battery disconnected for 24 hours i have not tried it for 24 hours yet ?.

Dont think this works with air bag warning lights, once an error is detected the system is disarmed and the warning light illuminates until cleared with plug in computer. Does work with ABS faults etc.

Just found out it cost £28 for two mins work @ main dealers i think i might buy a tester and start my own business £11 a min sounds good to me. lol

If you need something else doing like an MOT, they'll do things like this for free, if you ask nicely, but if you just go in for that they'll charge you.
