Police vehicles ?visibility I brought this subject up before. I am looking for a place in the Sussex area where they can supply, design and apply the day glow stickers that you see on police vehicles. I am aware that Viscount International (341 CHIGWELL ROAD, Essex) can do this, but is a bit of a trip for me (almost 200 miles both ways); I hope someone can help me. Many thanks

Greg - Try these people

www.reflexdesign.uk.com.

They are based in Leicestershire but they will come to you to carry out the work on site.

Contact Sussex Police HQ and ask to speak to the Transport Manager.

If you speak to him nicely he may tell you where they send their vehicles to be striped up, or if done in Force Workshops, who supplies the Dayglo.

If you do find a supplier, let Billy25 know - he's had a brush with a van that could do with some stripes....

I have had a quote from Reflex design limited and have told me that they charge £35 per hour for labour (+ VAT FOR ALL PRICES) and police bikes cost £325 to have done in day glow.

For my motorcycle/ scooter, they have quoted around £130 to have it fitted as they could use off cuts.
Does this seem reasonable, or should I try another firm that someone could recommend from this forum. I am in the Brighton area, and although Reflex design would charge too much to come to me since they are in the Leicester area I find no problems in travelling to have work carried out.

My mechanic has his pickup truck fitted with high visibility tape - it's about 8" wide, runs the length of the truck and reflects bright silver when light hits it, to great effect. If your concern is visibility rather than dayglo looks, it might be worth a try as I gather you can simply buy it off the roll and apply it yourself. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the company that make it, but if I do I shall post:)

I shall have to look out for the company you mention too as I live in Leicester and haven't yet come across them:)

Even with all that day glow, 50 police cars crash every day!

Not sure what that's got to do with it.

On the other hand average driver observation is so lousy more than once has it been said "Sorry didn't see you" by an unfortunate who has just driven into a stationary fully liveried battenburg.

The proprietory name for reflective tape is Scotchlite by 3M. www.williamsmith.co.uk/site/products/products_deta...3 seem to stock it. Try giving them a call and getting some prices for a DIY job.

Alternatively, 3M provide contact details here: cms.3m.com/cms/GB/en/0-171/iRiRiFD/view.jhtml

slightly tangential...

In this (last?) weeks Autocar there was a picture of a Lancer Evo VIII (?) belonging to the Norfolk Constabulary which has the full batenburg livery for the front half of the car and a bog standard red paint job on the rear half.

If your approaching it from the rear the only visual clues where the roof lights, which were quite low profile compared to usual.

Some poor guys going to get a nasty surprise soon... :-)

Chad.

SP services sell the tape by the metre but a limited selection, they are really an emergency medical products suplier. (listed under vehicle tapes and badges in the products section)

Also was found this site when looking into getting rear of car done. Never did in the end.

At work 2 of our vehicles have been marked up for airfield use by a local sign writing company who were very knowledgable about the types of stick on strips and thir pros/cons (reflectivity/fade resistance etc). Maybe you have a similar company near you (yellow pages?)
