Hope someone can help...
Have a '95 Cavalier 2.0i (Ecotec Engine) and have had the engine management light come on occasionally. Read the fault code (paper clip solution), and the code is number 92. According to my 'script', this means:
"Camshaft sensor - Incorrect Signal"
Have not a clue what this means. The light only comes on at start up, and if you let the engine run for a minute (literally) and then turn off and turn back on again, the engine managment light does not come back on....
Car appears fine - doing 40mpg, running smoothly, oil clean....
Two thoughts - either the sensor is faulty (if so, how accesible is it....). If there is a problem at the camshaft, what should I do.
Thanks in advance

I used to get this code regulary on my '95 16v Sri. If I recall correctly my engine had the Simtec 56 engine management system.
First time I experienced it I paid £70 for a new sensor and still had the same problems. The sensor sits between the two camshaft sprockets on the left hand side of the engine, you can actually see the cable protrude out of the top of the cover and disappear into the loom. To me the route of the wire looks like it could be easily pulled or strained and cause an intermittent connection. So not wanting to spend anymore cash, I used to find that re-seating the plug or giving the wire 'a wiggle' used to remedy it for a few months. Not very professional I know but it seemed to do the trick so I could live with it.
Hope this helps.....

If you read the latter part of this thread, someone solved the problem by cleaning the contacts of the cam sensor.

Thank you both - and apologies, I should have done a forum search prior to posting.
Leant on the sensor cable this afternoon, and light has not come on sense. Comforted that great likelihood is that it is electrical rather than anything more unpleasant!

u will get this code if u done the test without the engine started.
start the engine next and try read the codes again if it re-appears

RF interference from the alternator will throw up this code. Re-route the cam sensor wire away from the alternator.

Simplicate and add lightness!!

.......and check cambelt tension - loose belt can generate same code !
