flashing blue lights - moonshine
Saw something interesting on my way home tonight. I noticed a way back that a car with blue headlights seemed to be flashing his lights all the time. As the car went past (slowly) I noticed that it was a BMW with the projector style headlights, as he came up behind the car in front (daul carrigeway) it moved over quite quickly - I guess thinking that it was an agressive driver wanting to get past. Every tiny bump in the road seemed to cause the lights to flash, I have an audi with these style headlights and I'm sure mine don't flash like that.

Is this a new feature for BM's - automatic flashing blue lights?

Its caused by the self leveling feature. Lots of cars with HID lamps appear to do this to me.

come to think of it ive seen it quite a few times. you think there is some copper behind you! i guess because HID lights have such a sharp cut off then any movement etc is a lot more noticable

I think it is caused by an under-damped self-leveling system and as such is really a design fault.
I drove a new Vauxhall with this system and it was awful on a bumpy road - the lights couldn't decide where to point. Must have been unpleasant for the oncoming drivers.

The blue is caused by the refraction of the light at the fringe of the beam, there will also be a yellow fringe at the opposite end of the fringe but this is less noticeable...It's basically a result of cheap optics... I think the MkII Puntos are the worst. If you have frost/drizzle/dirt on the back window and are followed by a car with these lights you can see flashes of rainbow spectrum on your rear window!

How long till the drivers get done for 'impersonating a police vehicle', given the growing war on government vs motorists?
flashing blue lights - patently
Presumably it would be an essential part of a prosecution for impersonating a police vehicle to show that the accused remained stationary in a layby off a safe straight stretch of fast road, pointing a small box at oncoming traffic while ignoring any unsafe but slow drivers in the vicinity?

TIC mode off...

Vauxhall have brought some new headlamp features, one of which is reminiscent of the old Citroen DS (?) feature where the headlamps point in the same direction as the steering.

There are two or three differnt functions, worth a look if you're bored www.vauxhall.com/features/afl/index.jhtml
