How overblown and pretentious was Peter Dron's column in the motoring section today? I think he went off the track at pseuds corner where a lifetime award awaits him. He ends by saying that a future free from boredom is the only thing he can guarantee. It will be for me as I won't be reading the back page anymore.

IF by back page you're talking about Stephen Bayley's column I agree. He totally lost the plot today despite the inclusion of a couple of quotable quotes.
Kept looking for the quote from Mr Johnson in Fawlty Towers:
"pretentious? Moi?"

Sincere apologies to Peter Dron.

It's at times like reading that column that I wish I had an incontinent cat - it would give me some use for the paper.

Hey, Bayley is as brilliant as ever this week!
If you want a piece on handling, performance, specifications, etc, don't read him. If you're willing to consider an alternative slant on cars and, in particular, automotive design, then he's just your man. I always learn something and he always challenges me to think about something differently.
For me he passes that crucial test 'And your point is?' Sir John Whitmore (see earlier thread) fails miserably.
But at the end of the day, would I buy an Espace - or any Renault? Nah. Looks nice but it's French innit? The virtues are marred by the detail.

Surely, Miss Piggy?
Matt - I have, it fits the floor of my parrot cage perfectly.

Quite willing to be shot down in flames but I thought Fawlty was earlier than the Muppets. ;)
But then again I'm sure someone will be along to inform us where the original quote really came from.
