Wheel alignment - anthony kevin leeson

Took my car with new tyres to get tracking done the put it on the old four post ramps but it was not lifting so it went on a two post and with all four wheels dropping down they did the tracking .

Several days went by and people watching me screeching round corners I took it back only for them to chat in a forge in language and dismiss the fault to pot holes-in-one Any original ideas

Can’t do wheel alignment on a 2 post ramp with the wheels hanging. Take it to another shop that can fix it properly.

Someone set the wheel alignment with it at full droop?
It’ll be toe-in hugely at its normal ride height - no wonder you’re getting tyre howl around corners…

If you want to DIY this is the cost effective alternative-

The scientific principle is sound, if a little fiddly.

I've got one and it works, and is accurate if you follow the instructions, take two or more readings and average them.

I'll second that, once you've worked out how to use it the first time it's an effective tool, the wheel/tyres on my Landcruiser are obviously comparatively large (good tyres cheaper than many half the size!) and the trackace did its job fine.

Just out of interest a handy way to tell if you have alignment issues is to find a wet road with a continuous white line and drive at normal speed with one wheel on said white line, the paint will usually have less grip than the road surface (obviously a decent surface not worn out shiny tarmac) and if the vehicle pulls in one direction it's a sign alignment is out.

One other thing i do if handling/damping on a car is suspect i get someone else to drive my car over various surfaces undulations etc and observe whilst following in another car, its surprising how much more you can deduce from how your car behaves.

i'd normally never use them for anything but tyres, give kwik fit a go, they've got proper Hunter allignment laser tracking. Had mine done a year ago on my old Pug 3008 and was night and day after they'd sorted it. Was about £60 if i remember but money well spent.

That's only as good as the person using it. I had a couple of new front tyres and alignment, within a hundred miles I had the balancing done properly. I don't know how good the alignment was as I flogged the car soon after.
