Had our test drive in the new swift this morning, what a nice car! Still got a few bits of hard plastic inside but much improved over the last model, the interior was quite a nice place to sit, plenty of adjustment in the comfortable and supportive seat, controls all felt nicely weighted and the large infotainment screen, lifted from the latest S-Cross apparently, was a doddle to navigate.

The new 3 pot engine had plenty of go despite only having I think around 80 horse powers, you do get that off beat 3 cylinder "thrum" on pulling away but around town it was all but silent. Think Suzuki have really filled a gap in the market with this car, Dealer said they've sold 50 in the last 5 or 6 weeks so it's obviously proving popular.

PS: we've just made it 51! Ordered it in what Suzuki call cool yellow but in reality it's more of a 'pistachio ', went for the top of the range ultra spec so get a few extra toys like heated seats, keyless go etc, delivery is around 20th September......

I've read a bit about the new Swift over the last while, including what mcb100 had to say about it, and it seems more or less universally positive.

I'm glad to se Suzuki (ATM anyway) seem not to be jumping on the "bigger is always better" bandwagon with the Swift being pretty much exactly the same size as the outgoing model.

Its a while before we will be choosing our next car, but the new Swift is already on the shortlist!. Of course it will depend on what is available though Motability at the time though, which is the main reason we now have a Hyundai rather than a Swift or (another) Ignis.

Look forward to hearing how you find the car!

.... plenty of adjustment in the comfortable and supportive seat .......

Beats me why the seat stylists seem to go back to the drawing board in every new model. The seats in the Pug 205 (early 1980s) and the Fiat Punto (early 1990s?) were applauded in their time, but quite a few later designs weren't. By all means improve on the adjustments etc - but every time it goes back to what they look like in the cabin !! Or maybe a few centimetres of padding have been sacrificed to try to compensate for loss of space behind ?

Good to hear that Suzuki seem to have made a good 'un.

Cool Yellow is a great colour - it’s just not, well, yellow.

The first time I saw it was in under fairly dismal hotel conference room lighting (the cars were still under embargo at the time and had to be completely covered when they were loaded/unloaded, so I didn’t see it in daylight) and I remember wondering what Suzuki were thinking of.

I then saw it outside in early April and changed my mind. It’s not for everyone, but I think it’s a great colour.

Saw a new Swift in the flesh today, and it also happened to be in the colour you have chosen. Didn't get as good a look as I'd like as I was cycling at the time, but definitely looked better in the flesh than the pics I've seen, and I also really liked tho colour :-)

We test drove the old model (auto) in April and liked it very much. Seriously considered swapping the 2014 Roomster DSG. But herself really likes the Roomie and prefers to keep it while it's OK. There is no real successor to the Roomster.

According to a post on the Swace thread Suzuki are phasing the Swift out so get a move on if you want one.

Indeed, with the market going heavily over to large, SUV-type and often far less practical (for the car's size/footprint) of car, and at vastly higher prices.

As Skidpan says, that Swift may not be around that long, especially as many manufacturers are likely finding making smaller cars generally (especially ICE, even self-charging/MHEV hybrids) uneconomic, because of all the add-on design features those cars need in order to meet minimum safety and environmental 'expectations' (some which are law, others not so), many of which (from the last 5+ years) give little value for money.

A shame.

They’ve just launched a new model Swift. It’ll be around for a few years yet.

Suzuki aren’t going to fly a few hundred people to Monte Carlo (including me), feed and house them for a pan-European launch event last November, then spend two weeks sending a training team (including me) to roll out new Swift to the dealer network for a car with a shelf life of a few months.

Just realised - it’s Swift Sport that’s disappearing.

Just realised - it’s Swift Sport that’s disappearing.

Even more of a shame - it was the best one. Even so, given recent trends, I'd be surprised if the new standard Swift is sold here for more than 4 years, given recent trends with more and more small ICE / MHEV cars being deleted from sales lines, at least in European markets.

Unfortunately the few EVs that replace them are mostly well outside of the price range of those normally buying their ICE counterparts.
