Corolla Cross not coming to UK - andyfr

Back in May Toyota announced that "following a comprehensive review of our SUV model Portfolio and UK market opportunities Corolla Cross will not be introduced in the UK market".

Source Toyota Owners Club.

It's a shame as it would have been an ideal size for my next car.

I've been keeping an eye open for any signs of the Cross making it to the UK and was on the verge of giving up hope.

The Kia Niro has very similar dimensions (a tiny bit lower than the Cross) and has the next best warranty period after Toyota's.

The upcoming 2nd generation C-HR has been made more family friendly so should be able to satisfy some customers that where thinking Corolla Cross.

European market is much more important to Toyota, that's why choice of products, standard equipment & optional extras available have been steadily decreasing for UK customers these last couple of years.

That’s disappointing. I thought it would be a rival to the Tiguan and Kuga. I was interested as a possible replacement for the better half’s Verso. Yaris code is too small and RAV4 too ungainly/expensive. Any reason given as to why it’s not coming to the UK?
Corolla Cross not coming to UK - movilogo

Most likely it would eat up sales of RAV4 which is more profitable for Toyota.

As someone already said, Kia Niro is an alternative.

Buy one in Eire?

Kms rather than Miles but being RHD & European Spec should be OK

Kms rather than Miles but being RHD

I think for cars with digital dashboard that is no longer an issue.

Mile to km can be flipped in a second via some settings menu.

If you bought one in Eire would it be liable for extra tax such as vat and would speedo and anything else have to converted to uk spec. Have verso at present and would be perfect replacement as Toyota alternatives too small.

The speedo is digital so that is already selectable.

I have to say though that, other than in ground clearance, if the Corolla Cross is a suitable size then so is a Corolla Touring Sport ...

& then there is the RAV4 (supposedly why the Corolla Cross isn't in the UK is too similar in size/might cannibalise sales0

Watched a review of this vhicle on Israeli car website (they have them for about a year now) and the impression was ok, the interior was said to be low rent for the price Mr T asked. Just another crossover (yawn) was the conclusion.

No great loss. Can't see it offers any more than a Peugeot 3008. For those who like to keep their cars till they die, on past experience the Peugeot's body is likely to last longer than a Toyota.

It will make a great shed when all the electrics go wrong then...

That is a very odd argument?.

First in that it seems to be saying that less choice in cars is better than more. Second in that it seems to be saying that for people who keep their cars till they die, it is more important that the bodywork lasts than the drivetrain........

Not at all. Choice is good. But there seems little to choose between these two similar sized boxes on wheels.

Second in that it seems to be saying that for people who keep their cars till they die, it is more important that the bodywork lasts than the drivetrain..

Clearly both are important for longevity, but for most people doing fewer than 10k miles p.a. (and it seems especially so for Asian cars), death is usually from corrosion rather than mechanical failure. The average mileage of sc***ped cars in the UK is around a mere 120,000, well within the lifespan of a well maintained powetrain.

Two cars which look so different from each other both outside and in, and you can't envisage a reason why someone might choose one over the other?, seriously?

Of course I can! But mere looks are skin deep. If much the same weight, size and construction there is little to choose between cars, coats or cats apart from their appearance, which of course provides extensive choice. Beauty.......beholder.

The average age of those cars is 14 years. The Toyota anti-corrosion warranty is 12 years (same as Peugeot)

Some people just want a boring unexciting ownership experience that doesn't require them to be on first name terms with the local main dealer service department. The boring unexciting ownership experience is why Toyota has gained 3 x new vehicle sales from my my family in the last couple of years - the vehicles just do what's expected of them.

Yes its a shame the Corolla Cross isn't sold in the UK but anyway the all new RAV4 should be appearing / launching in the UK sometime next year.

I'm with you Lee, boring is good. Which is why we, the family, have been driving Toyotas for some years now. Our Yaris bought new 15 years ago on the sc***page scheme is still being driven by our daughter. The Corolla Cross would have suited me very well and I would have bought a new one, only the second new car that would have been bought with our own cash, had there been one available. I have just had to limp along in a Lexus NX instead. It's tough sometimes.

Manufacturers allocate models to a country based on calculation what they believe as most profitable for them.

For example, Kia sells following models in India - Seltos, Sonet, Carens. None of these models are available in UK. Conversely, none of the Kia models sold in UK are available in India.

Toyota sells 7/8 seater MPV Innova in various international markets but it is not available in UK.

In fact, manufacturers killed MPV market in UK while it is still a popular segment around the world.
