Can anyone tell me if changing the glow plugs on a Montego TD is an easy job (such as changing Spark plugs on a petrol model), or if its more involved?

Hi Neil,
Ages since I last did one, but as far as I remember a POP (very easy job !). UNLESS, of course, a previous replacer has overtightened them. Be sure to arm yourself with a deep six-point 12mm socket for this job.

Just like spark plugs - glow plugs can also corrode into the head which can cause them to snap if over-torqued.
Suggest applying some penetrant, (WD40) the night before to the plugs whilst the engine is hot - this should help to ease the plugs out in the morning.
Known problem on the Ford 1800TD lump.

If they are tight, try removing them on a hot engine, together with lots of WD40 or similar.
