Having problems removing spark plugs caps on this engine. special tool attached to HT lead for this but still unable to pull cap completely clear of plug without catching on inlet/outlet maifold. Suggestions please.

There are two methods.
1) Fiddle, fiddle, and fiddle some more.
2) Cut your losses and remove the inlet manifold.
Unfortunately, it really is as simple as that.
I ran a Vectra 2.5 V6 SRi Estate for three years, and then a GSi Estate for another three after that. The former had a faulty coil pack when brand new, and the dealer decided to change all six spark plugs as a precaution when the new pack was fitted. All six plug leads came off with careful pursuation, without removing the inlet manifold.
The latter however required six new plugs towards the end of the three years I drove it, and two of the leads refused to come off the plugs without first removing the inlet manifold to get a 'proper grip'. I know, because I saw the manifold on the floor when popping by to see how work was progressing.
Good luck!

Ha! I know the problem well!
If the car has covered >60,000 miles then bank on having to fit a new set of leads after disturbing them....
The bad news is that they are £80 a bank (x2..)
Replacing the leads is impossible without removing the manifolds - which looks a horrible job, but isn't too bad a job.
A tip to remove stubborn HT leads from the plugs is to twist them; this releases the grip on the plug terminal - usually!

I have replaced plugs on a v6 omega whioch I assume is the same engine. In the case of the omega although it is a fiddly job there is a no need to remove the inlet manifold. However the passenger side bank is fairly awkward and requires you to move the wiring loom to get access. In summary awkward but not too difficult. Hope this helps.

The front wheel drive Vectra with transverse engine is different to the Omega, which is rear wheel drive and with a completely different inlet manifold.
