Mini - Lost keys, A very helpful dealer - _

Out walking the dog this morning, found a Mini Keyfob for keyless entry.

Took it to the dealer, Inchcape in Colchester, who scanned it, and identified their customer, and called them to let them know the keys had been found, and as it was in the next streer, very close to me, I offered to drop them in.

One happy person. and a big thank you.

Donkeys years ago I parked up at the train station in Wigan. Noticed the keys to the car next to me were still in the lock. So I left a note under the windscreen wiper saying that they were in the ticket office and dropped them in. Chap at the ticket office asked me to leave my address. Didn't think any more about it, but about a week later a letter arrives from the lady who's car it was thanking me profusely for what I did, and there was also a £5 note! :-)

Many moons ago in Chester, I went to use a phone box, and found a small clutch bag on the shelf, after contacting the police to inform them, so nobody thought I had robbed it..I took it to the police station, they opened it..it turned out to be an air hostesses..it contained £300, passport, BMW car keys and house keys…I received a nice thank you letter and a pot plant! Do unto others…etc.

I once left a telephoto lens on the side of a lock at Fort William. It was handed in to police. I was able to forward 10% of its secondhand value to the finder (I'd recently bought it secondhand). I forget how it was returned to me.

Also many years ago, newly married we hired a Mark 2 Ford Escort and drove to Beachy Head (not that newly married had driven either of us to consider suicide!), and carelessly locked the keys inside the car. Unable to get into the car, but a helpful couple also in the car park offered to drive us into Eastbourne to look for a Ford dealer & ask if they could help.

Found the dealership, "No problem, where's the car?" said the dealer as he walked towards the door ... "er - it's in the car park on Beachy Head" I replied.

"Oh - in that case ..." the dealer turned back and reappeared from the service area with a ring carrying 50-60 different keys. "You should be able to find one of these to fit - then just bring the ring of keys back"

Happy, innocent days ... could have made off with any Ford in Eastbourne I guess!

I did the same with a MK3 cortina, fortunately the colleague with me had a MK2 escort and unlocked it!

Did the same in Dundee - closed the boot - keys in the boot.

Off to the Vx dealer 200 yards away - a ring with several dozens keys - 20 mins later - Bingo the boot opened. Happy days.

My local Indie used to take on apprentices - annual car service - nice young chap had started and he gave me a run home. The garage were really happy with his progress since he started

Sadly about 2 years on he was sacked - caught by police carrying the garage "ring of keys" a few weeks earlier.

Back in the early 880's I drove with my mum to the local town to visit the solicitors. We collected the deeds to a house my dad had just bought and we had some shopping to do.

I went back to the car park, unlocked mum's red Maestro, dropped the envelope on the passenger seat and went in to town.

On our return the documents were nowhere to be seen. Total panic!

After turning the car inside out I noticed another red Maesto 3 cars down. Guess what was on the passenger seat!

Mum kept lookout while I went back to the stranger's car, unlocked it, removed our precious documents and re-locked it before making our getaway!
