Just heard that a Fiesta owner who has the eco boost engine has been quoted £2800 for a belt change at 10 years as prescribed by Ford.

Similarly Honda quote a much more realistic figure !!! £1700.

A special tool is required which small independents usually don’t have as yet but with the mileages racking up on these popular engines they will be another costly investment

This must be a mistake as I’ve been informed the price is £800 not £2800 unless something else major has happened to the engine like a blockage or oil pump failure

I've heard the local Ford main dealer charge £1.8k to replace an Ecoboom wet belt.

Searching for Fiesta Ecoboost belt replacement cost, I found an Ask Honest John question from about a year ago. The answer given is that it will cost around £1k at a dealer.

I've heard it best to avoid such foolish designs and stick with Toyotas :-)

Seriously though, if you;re going to put a timing gear inside the engine what the hell is wrong with a well designed duplex chain.

I have heard (not sure if true) that Ford only change the main cambelt for that price. When my daughters was done she had the cambelt changed, the sump removed, the strainer cleaned and the oil belt replaced. IMO it is a waste of time to change the main belt and not the oil pump belt. Cost under a grand at a mechanic who specialises in these. We had to travel a couple of hours for that though.

What a stupid design. Its predecessor the 1.25/1.4/1.6 Zetec SE which was designed by Yamaha had a simple timing belt change which can be done today by any garage for £200-£300. Failures are almost unheard of also as it’s a very short belt run and under little stress. A very good and straightforward design that is vastly superior to Fords own Ecoboom as a second hand buy. Its only real downside over the ecoboost is a little less performance, which I’d happily sacrifice for reliability.

My mechanic mate recently acquired a cheap 2006 built Fiesta 1.25 with 73k miles on that required some TLC, he found it still had the factory fitted timing belt on, new genuine belt fitted for piece of mind as he was flogging the car on.
