identifying battery age - rustbucket
Happy new year everyone, hope this is in the correct forum but does anyone know how to identify the age of a Varta car battery type A7 part 536 046 030. The code embosed into the plastic top is G5B9710130186. Iam quessing that from this code a manufacturing date can be decoded. There is also a bar code 016487 102183 but this could easily be a shop code for point of sale.

Have you tried looking at the terminal posts? Some batteries that I have had in the past have the month stamped onto the top face of one terminal and the year on the other, eg 12 on negative terminal and 96 on positive terminal indicate a mnaufacturing date of December 1996.

My old Varta blue dynamic had the date on the bottom. I didn't look at the new Varta silver's bottom (a bit heavy to hold over my head!).
