Merc A Class - W176 - 2013 Model - Front Right Malfunction. Consult Workshop - allan doc

Hi. I removed my front seat to clean under it. I carefully removed the plugs before removing the seat. After refitting the seat and plugs I now have an error message saying ' Front Right Malfunction. Consult workshop. I took the plugs back off and cleaned then with electrical cleaner but to no avail. I know have an air bag light on the dash and a seatbelt light. When I plug the seat belt in the light goes off. There used to be a beeping noise before when there was no seatbelt in. No there is no beeping.

Anyone any ideas. I have ordered a fault reader to try determine the issue.

I also have my MOT this weekend which is not ideal as this will be a fail

Unfortunately if you disturb the under seat wiring with the battery connected , it’s likely to Flag the airbag warning system . Provided the yellow multi connector is pushed fully home , then the system should be able to be reset with correct equipment. You’ll need a reader that does airbag systems. A basic obd reader will not do the job .

Thanks for reply. I didn't have battery disconnected. Got a proper obd reader ordered, so should should hopefully clear it.

I'm waiting on an obd reader to arrive today. I now have a message displayed in red saying 'dont change gear. Consult workshop.' All seems ok while driving. Can anyone give me any info on this?

Automatic or manual transmission? Could be a low battery issue.

Sorry for the delay in replying. The car is an Auto. I managed to get the airbag warning light reset and seatbelt is beeping again when not inserted but still displaying the gear message when I insert the key but goes away after a few seconds. Sometimes an Anti-Theft message appears on the radio screen also. I have to press in the 'on' button for around 10 secs to reset it then it works fine.

Did you get the car battery tested?

Checked battery and all ok. I ended up retracing my steps and I removed some fuses from under the bonnet while trying to reset the airbag. I noticed I put a 5amp fuse in wrong location. Put it back in correct location and the warning display disappeared. All fixed now. Thanks for the advice.
