Pondering: Car dealers selling faulty cars? - Warning

I guess this question is about motor traders.

I was watching High Peak Autos on YouTube. He will be offered trade in cars. Some he will take on (and repair any faults).

What is to stop a motor trader buying defective cars and then selling with third party warrantee, so to scam them to get free repairs?

Nothing wrong with selling a defective car (assuming it’s not dangerous) as long as it’s advertised as such. And any noted fault wouldn’t then be covered by a warranty.
There’s no guarantee that a warranty company would mandate that it be repaired by the selling dealer. It would be by any of their approved garages.

Dealers today are quite protective of their Trustpilot/Google reviews and wouldn’t do anything to impact on their 5* ratings.

Under the Consumer Rights Act, there is a presumption that a fault within the first 6 months after sale was pre-existing. The insurance company can then just say that the dealer is responsible for pre-existing faults and refuse to pay out.

Note dealers do not have to sell perfect cars. They have to be roadworthy and "to a standard a reasonable person might expect" which isn't the same as like new.
