SKODA Karoq or Hyundai Tucson - Confused between 2 Auto SUV's - Soniya

SKODA Karoq - 1.5 TSI (150ps) SE L DSG 5dr, 2018 (67 reg), White, www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303085034069 - ( video.citnow.com/vt8VJvwRJXx ) - £17000 - Clean MOTs - has main dealer service history, recent cam belt changed, approved used, will be serviced if needed before sale.

Or Hyundai Tucson - 1.6 TGDi Sport Edition 5dr 2WD DCT, 2018 (18 reg), Red, www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303064942540 - £17600 - GL18KWY - 44K mileage - Clean MOTs, 1 due, will be serviced before sale, has had 3 main dealer services and 1 independent

Which car is more reliable, has cheaper maintenance costs, looks and feels more premium? Which one has more features to look out for? Which one do you have a preference for? What should I look out for before buying? Is the white car with cream interior too much or Red car with black interior too basic? Which handles better? The acceleration is closely matched on both.

I'm so confused as to which I should go for... Any advice helps

No expert on these particular models but ISTR that both the 1.5 engine and VW group autoboxes have problems for one reason or another.

In a year or so's time I'll be in a similar market but would be looking for a diesel as we tow a caravan.

At the risk of stating the obvious, go for the one you prefer. But you will only be able to determine this by seeing them in person, sitting in them, poking and prodding, and of course a test drive.

No pics showing for the Skoda link and only three for the Hyundai. But, there is no way I'd have something with a cream interior unless a weekend only kind of car. Because of this, and the fact that I do like red and don't like white on most cars, I'd go with the Hyundai.

However neither are cars I particularly like and I also don't much trust DCT/DSG auto's, certainly as a 2nd hand buy.

there's a video for the Skoda sent to me by the dealership, which I've linked above

I have a Karoq in that exact spec (even down to the cream interior, but not the white paint). Sorry to be boring, but you're going to have to try them both. I haven't tried a Tucson, but did have a go in a Kia Sportage, which is very similar, and didn't like it at all. The Karoq was much more to my liking, but that may not be the case with you.

I would expect the Tucson to be more reliable and probably cheaper to keep going, but the Karoq has a much nicer interior. The DSG gearbox can be a concern, but the same may be true of the Hyundai DCT. The 1.5TSI is a lovely engine, but can be a little strange when it's cold. You will have to drive it and see if it bothers you, but I found that engine and gearbox combination to be a lot smoother and better matched than in the Kia/Hyundai.

Thank you - to be honest I prefer the Skoda's interior over the Hyundai. My last car was a Skoda Fabia and I've gone for a test drive in the Karoq and I liked the feel if it. I don't know much of the technical differences in both cars like the difference in the gearboxes. My only problem with the Karoq is that it it's white inside and out and I prefer darker colours. I put the post up to see if anyone had any ideas of some major advantages or disadvantages of one car over the other.

The 1.6 Kia / Hyundai gdi petrol engines are not very economical, the 1.5 skoda is likely to be a lot better.

For what it's worth, I get about 42mpg out of my Karoq, but it's primarily used on motorways with the cruise set at 70.

The Skoda is a lot nicer to drive compared to the sportage (the Tucson is a rebadged sportage).

However I would expect the Hyundai to be more reliable

They both appear over priced but then I’m comparing them to the pre Covid car market which may never return

If the OP likes the Karoq, but doesn't like the cream interior, why not go and look at a different Karoq? There are lots of them around, and the vast majority will have grey/black seats rather than the light coloured ones, which don't tend to be particularly popular in family cars.

It's also worth remembering that the Seat Ateca is effectively the same car, so worth checking these if the right trim/colour combination of Karoq isn't available locally.

All the other Karoq same level trim, autos are 18500+

I found a skoda kodiaq 2018 1.5 TSI DSG 35k mileage, SE L trim - in this lovely dark blue colour with a black interior for £20k.

Is it worth paying an extra 3 grand for the Kodiaq?
