Brexit dividend in action. Entirely predictable!

Brexit dividend in action.

Indeed, we have loads to thank Boris and his mates for.

And I hope those on the opposite benches who supported Brexit have finally realised what they have done.

Although I was/am a Remainer, I think it is a bit simplistic to assume that the downward trend since 2016 is only caused by Brexit. Various other things have happened globally since then.

No signs of a downturn at Rolls Royce Motors at Goodwood , and maybe it’s time to acknowledge the contribution that Toyota make at their factories in Burnaston and North Wales !

In other news, buyers and different forums are waiting over a year to get their new cars delivered.

So clearly there is demand for new cars. Production was down for a long time due to chip shortages. Some of the buyers, who got frustrated waiting, must have bought used cars which pushed used car prices up.

By far and away the biggest reason for this is unavailability of parts. I have no idea whether Brexit has had an effect or not but I very much doubt it is the major reason.

Factories have simply been shut, models deleted or working short time because they can't get the bits to build the cars.

The closure of Swindon and Ellesmere Port car production has also had an impact.

German production was only 3.2 million in 2022 compared to 4.7 million in 2019.

Indeed. Which has everything to do with the pandemic response (which the remain-supporting Labour party and others wanted to go much harder which would've made even worse, as shown by what has happened in China).

The closure of Swindon and Ellesmere Port car production has also had an impact.

Which, as the manufacturers admitted, had nowt to do with Brexit.

Presumbly according to Terry and Skidpan this is down to Brexit. Rather holed their 'arguments' below the water line and terminally.

Note to them and others arguing about Brexit and car facility closures this was done to death in a thread a year or two ago as I recall.

Its clearly obvious that the reduction in German production has nothing to do with Brexit, they are still in the EU and still selling in the UK. A shortage of parts relating to Covid, the war in Ukraine and energy costs were clearly the major factors for Germany.

But in the UK as well as Covid and Ukraine we had other factors to consider. The first was Brexit which did have an impact because whatever people argue its made it more costly to manufacture cars here and as a result the multinationals have restructured production to some extent in the homelands. The second was the disastrous political upheaval caused by Boris and his mates which still continues and will carry on until the whole load of corrupt individuals are consigned to history. Why make cars here when there are enough world wide issues without adding our own to the difficulties.

Firstly, this has nothing to do with Brexit or Boris. Its down to Covid and the Ukraine war. Secondly, Brexit was never about the economy. Brexit is about freedom and sovereignty. There are some things that you just cannot put a price on.... I would the UK be free but poor rather than rich under the EU jackboot.

Brexit almost definitely will have played some part but clearly there are also other significant global factors at play. People will argue until next Christmas the extent to which any factor has contributed to the decline in UK car production.

Yes this has all been done to death, both on this forum and others, one in particular that some members here also contribute to. I really cannot see any point in going over all the same issues again and again with the inevitable outcome. People rarely change their minds in relation to what they read on a forum, it's probably best left that we just accept there are differing views on Brexit.
