Could any technicaly minded Omega owner help me out with a small problem I have I have a 2.5 Omega CDX and one day walking round the breakers yard I came across an Elite with the dimming rear view mirror I purchased same thinking that the wiring loom would be in the roof at the back of the interior light but it was not I thought that if I connected the Power lead and the Earth it would have worked I connected to the reading light only active when ignition on but it does not work the black is the power and brown the earth does any techno know why it will not work
thanks in anticipation

The auto dip mirror is only fitted to cars with drivers electric memory seat &external mirrors.Apart from power &earth connections ,the rear view mirror is wired to reverse lights ¢ral lock systems.

Are you sure it\'s an autodip mirror?
Does it have the sensor in the bottom right of the mirror glass, and another behind facing to look through the windscreen?
Have you tried covering the hole looking through the windcreen, and shining a light on the rear-facing sensor?
This should make the glass go dark green almost instantly.
Also, I though all of these mirrors were electrically adjustable by the memory seat positions, so surely need more than 2 wires?

My last car had an auto dim mirror. Whoever thought of them was DIM! Hated the damn thing; took the fuse out in the end.

IMO auto dip mirrors are like rain sensing wipers - when they work well they're great, when they don't they're much more hassle than the standard items.

Sorry Chad, but I totally disagree with you on this. The adm did work properly, but too much so. Looking into it was akin to looking into a black hole...
That's why I pulled the fuse!

Well, I hope I stay in the honeymoon period I'm currently in.
I have both on my V70, simply because they were standard kit on the model I chose, and now wonder how I managed without them!
Both react faster than I can, and have never played up.
In the small hours of the morning on the drive back from Dover, having collected the car in the Netherlands, (ie I was still unfamilar with it), a truck passed the other way on the otherwise deserted road. As it did, a huge cloud of spray went up from a puddle created hours before (dry road other than puddle). The wipers had finished their wipe before I even touched the stalk. That cemented a relationship that is still sound today! Likewise dimming mirror. Great invention.

Yes it is but being as i have not got memory seats the other wires are useless I checked on the haynes manual and the only wires to go to the dim system are Power Earth Reverse Lights and Central locking I just thought that if Power and earth were connected it would work but not so why I dont Know any way thanks for the response much appreciated

I'm curious as to whay there is reverse and central lock connections, having an Elite myself. (Didn't I buy some sat nave bits from you on ebay - same Robert?)
I haven't noticed anything happen when the doors are locked/unlocked or reverse is selected with regards to the mirrors!

Thanks for the reply to the thread no I did not sell you Sat Nav Bits but I bought a Garmin V from E Bay and was trying to buy a Sat Nav from an Elite into My CDX all the wires are there.
I contacted Vauxhall after I had got it working because my Local dealer gave me bum Info. But I gleaned enough info from the reply
the power comes from the central locking wire, car locked no power unlocked powered up if mirror is dimmed out at this point with ignition on and reverse selected it makes the mirror only darken slightly if you come back out of reverse and bright lights behind it darkens fully, hope it helps
