Im having problems starting my felicia 1.3 mpi from cold, it starts but feels it wants to cut out on me. After a minute it then bursts into normal life and then you can smell strong petrol fumes in the cabin. Does anyone know what this problem could be?.

You aren't going to be able to perform many checks yourself due to the complexity of the engine management system but you coudl check/assess the condition of items such as the spark plugs and air filter.
Check wiring connections to various engine sensors; it might be prudent to replace the engine coolant sensor. A fault on this line will give the very symptom you have here.
Past that, it's a job for a suitably equipped workshop.

Oh that we could accurately pin-point everything without having to open the bonnet ! Could be one of many possibilities, but top of the suspect list has to be the Coolant Temperature Sensor - quite a common problem on VAG-related engines, especially if it is the 4-pin one.

Thanks Guy's for the info. I will check things out and see what happens, if I still have problems I will get the car checked out. It,s just that a lot of garage's in the Belfast area are prone to ripping people off at times.

Many Thanks

Hi again,
Got the problem sorted, sorry I did not post sooner.
The coil pack was at fault, replaced it with a used one from local breakers yard £25 fitted. A new one would have cost £100 .
Car is running great now. Many thanks for the posts.
