Hello folks,
Wonder if you could put my mind at rest on a ticking noise coming from my 1.9 Diesel engine?
The noise only appers when I am cruising at 65-upwards and not when I am stationery; I wouldn't go as far as to say it is loud but it is noticeable with the radio off.
The car only has 18,500 on the clock and is due a service, aswell as an oil change(6,000 miles ago). Could that be the reason..?
The noise is certainly new with no apparent loss of power?
Any comments greatly welcome.
Cheers

As mentioned above, the car is a 1.9D, not a HDI.
If you have driven 18,000 miles and are overdue a service by 6k, that means the car has not seen the inside of a garage except for the check up service at 1,000 miles.
You don't say how old the car is, nor what your average journey legnth is, but I would guess the engine has suffered extreme wear due to the legnthened oil change interval.
I'm 99.9% sure your warranty will be invalidated, so this could be very expensive.
I'd get the car to an independent Pug specialist for a service and a check.

Doh!
It's just the HDi models I have driven in the course of my work do indeed exhibit a rattle/tick at certain revs - possibly just noise from Diesel combustion.
In other words, it's nothing to worry about.

DL, Tell me more about this tick you hear, I will try and replicate this on my C5 HDI 110 and dads Picasso HDI if I can.

Mid-range under hard acceleration - it can (and does!) sound rather alarming....but easing off the throttle the noise goes, which 99% confirms to me that it is a combustion noise.
This was evident on HDi 90 and 110 models that had covered in excess of 50K

I bought the car with 12,000 on the clock with the service done at that time..so I have done 6,000 with the same oil.. See five (I mentioned the oil chage to the dealer when I took the car back 3,000 miles ago for an ECU download they told me to wait until the 20,000 mile service.).personally I normally change the oil every 3,000 miles or so by myself I just don't have the space anymore...(live in a city)
The car is a 2001 1.9D 206 by the way...

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant regarding when the oil was changed. I would take the car back to Peugeot. The Peugeot Citroen diesels are very tough normally, but I believe they prefer frequent oil and coolant changes.

Our HDI's have 12 and 13,000 miles on them, must wait a bit then!
