Hi, my brother is looking to replace his standard fit radio in his 206 with an mp3 head unit, but retain the steering controls and dashboard display.
Anyone any idea if this is possible?

yes as long as you check what leads are available first, some makes if ICE unit do not make this possible.
Sony and Kenwood are usually the best for integrating into existing displays and controls

I'm pretty sure you'll loose the dashboard display, though.

Not if you choose a Sony head unit, there is a third party company makes display drivers for this kit. Cant remember the name but saw them at the motor show, was toying with the idea of upgrading the scenic stereo

It depends whether or not the 206 is multiplexed and in warranty or not.
Older 206 (and Peugeot/Citroen in general) with the radio display on the radio itself use traditional style wiring. For these you can purchase an adapter made by Autoleads which allows the steering wheel stalk to operate with most Sony radios.
Newer 206 (and Peugeot/Citroen in general) with radio displays integrated into the dashboard use multiplex wiring. Connects2 make an adapter to convert both the display and the stalk.
I was at the Citroen dealer when someone came in saying their Xsara had developed many funny electrical problems since another dealer had fitted a different radio. The dealer advised me not to mess with the radio on new PSA cars as they are connected to the BSI (Built in systems interface) which controls all electronic functions of the car. So take care.
There is also the possibility of fitting an MP3 changer to your present radio, as I have no personal experience of this, I cannot recommend any companies, but most I have found on the net seem to use the a Sony MP3 changer and the same adapter lead which I think is made by Connects2.
I would also recommend a semi decent set of speakers to be fitted. The front doors of a 5 door 206 fit 17cm speakers, and the back doors 13cm. In 2 recent Citroens I have upgraded the speakers and it is a worthwhile improvement.
On my 3rd Citroen. Saxo, Xsara, C5.

Thanks for your replies guys, I will pass the info on to him. Any more information would also be welcome, perhaps from someone who has actually done it?
Maybe I should lose all self esteem and approach one of the many boy racers who have customised 206's and ask them what they did!!
