Mercedes AW169 2011 classic - Cracked plastic door mirror - wantstolearn

The plastic cover of door mirror was cracked whilst I was in a car park. All electrics etc work properly.

Is it possible to just replace plastic part ? If so, is it a job an amateur could do ?

Yes it is a replaceable part . If I recall it just clips in . You may have to transfer the indicator light . There are a few variations of mirror , so need to get the correct type . If you buy from MB dealer it will come in primer , so will need to be painted . Don’t think it’s beyond the capabilities of an amateur.

If it's anything like the corresponding part on a Peugeot you will need to take the usual degree of care while separating the plastic parts, not to break off any retaining lugs.

It may be easier to find an entire mirror on E-bay - with any luck in the correct shade. Then you could exchange the whole thing if that is easier. Cost will be an important decider ...

A complete s/hand mirror may be an option , but involves more work as the door card needs to be removed to get the wiring connected to the internal door loom .

Yes, but you still have the option of swapping only the casing .... if it's the right colour of course.

Thanks for both posts. A few minutes on EBay and I found new plastic cover needed.

I say it every time but deserves repeating. The forum performs an excellent function. This depends on people's generosity of giving time to help.
