The Tyre Extinguishers - Engineer Andy

What a lovely bunch of people they are. Let's hope they don't cause an accident or (via their 'other activities) prevent people in dire need of medical assistance from getting it, never mind ordinary people going about their business - I wonder how they might feel if they were personally affected.

I suspect their tiny brains didn't even think of such things.

Criminal damage 'A person who, without lawful excuse, destroys or damages any property belonging to another, intending to destroy or damage any such property, or being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged

The police would act if motorists decided to simply block the bus station, bus and cycle lanes in pursuit of their right to operate their cars without being delayed. The police should apply the same resolve to these sort of protests which can seriously impact on others.

Criminal damage is unlikely to be proveable.

This is the one:-

Section 22A of the Road Traffic Act 1988 creates the offence of intentionally taking some action (e.g. putting an obstruction in the road, tampering with traffic lights, deflating tyres) which causes the potential for danger to someone on or near a road.

Or this one - s.25 RTA 1988, vehicle tampering. A tyre valve is part of the mechanism, aTPMS valve even more so.

25 Tampering with motor vehicles.

If, while a motor vehicle is on a road or on a parking place provided by a local authority, a person—

(a)gets on to the vehicle, or

(b)tampers with the brake or other part of its mechanism,

without lawful authority or reasonable cause he is guilty of an offence.

I am curious about what the definition of a huge gas guzzling SUV is?. Does it go by length, width, footprint (length times width), weight, or a combination?. If so, what is the maximum size an SUV could be before becoming a target?.

Also, why just SUV's?. Aren't huge cars of any body type just as guilty of whatever crimes against the planet SUV's are being blamed for?.

I am very much in favour of a smaller car, no bigger than is needed, but behaviour like this will not result in anything other than anger, frustration and hate. The only way to get folks to drive smaller cars is to have them make that choice for themselves, and the only way to do this would be to make smaller cars more desirable. But such is the perceived status placed on size and power above all else, it is very difficult to see how that could be achieved.

The last few nights I have been browsing a website (carfromjapan.com) looking at various Kei cars which I'd much rather have (and would be a much better fit for where I live) than the enormous bloated power laden behemoths which seem to be the preferred choice for the majority.

Please.. Don't go giving people ideas.

Although I admit to once letting the air out of the tyres on a Renault in geneva, that used to park in my private parking space. It was on TD tyres (remember them ? ) and it couldn't be moved. He had to take one wheel off at a time and roll them 200 metres to a petrol station.

He Never did it again..

Bbd, that site and its kind are great !

I could spend days on them fantasizing about all the kei cars I'd have.

I had a Suzui Cappuccino adored it.

The Honda S660 is my current lust

That and a Toyota Camroad motorhome!

About time UK police got tough with these i****s. Smack 'em around the head a few times. I spend a lot of the year in Thailand and Spain - and in neither country would this sort of stuff be tolerated.

My giddy aunt! Well, since the Terios is no longer available, that would have to do I suppose. Each to their own but that almost deserves to have its tyres let down!

Presumably these oiks (unless wearing gloves) will touch the cars in some way, thus a DNA swap would get the evidence needed, especially if left on the tyre or valve / cap. Or fingerprints.

Unfortunately even if it was there, Plod these days are unlikely to bother, given they don't with similar evidence from house burglaries, etc, concentrating on 'other' so-called 'crimes'.

While I don't agree with their actions, I thought the excuse one of those inconvenienced was priceless - "i need an SUV to get my kids to school"

He lived in the middle of the city, he drove 3 miles.

Was this is the original Sky News report? I didn't see it with specifically 3 miles. Anyhoo, 3 miles each way (which IS a long way to walk - 45 mins) or 3 miles total (1.5 miles each way, about 22 mins)?

Note that even the latter would be a long way to walk if the kids were of Reception Class age, noting also that if the parent works, they would have to walk them to school, walk home then go to work, which may not be convenient for the start times of either.

We don't know the whole situation here. Besides - their car is private property and should not be tampered with - period, whether the perpetrator thinks its a 'gas guzzler' or not.

I wonder if these i****s can also tell the difference between a modern, fuel efficient SUV (especially hybrids) and older ones that are not, or make any differentiation between the former and older cars which are also more polluting, whatever their size?

Or how often the owner uses them - my car is a 2005 car (not one they 'target'), more polluting than many new ones, but I don't do much mileage, even in non-pandemic times and rarely drive in cities. How would they know this?

Or if the owner was visiting a friend or relative but lives in the countryside and needs an SUV to get around?

The naivete /stupidity /egos of their chums from 'Insulate Britain' and 'XR' show they are not fit to be environmentalists.

One day one or more of them will be caught in the act by someone who may not be as nice as Plod.
